Chapter 50: Dreams and Threats (Maya’s POV) For a moment, I could’ve sworn I saw him. The lawn beneath the Eiffel Tower was crowded with families laughing, couples picnicking, children racing across the grass. I was sitting with Laurent, Jamie chasing a ball nearby, when I felt it. That strange, unsettling pull, like someone’s eyes were locked on me. I turned my head, and for the briefest second, I thought I saw Axel. Tall, broad-shouldered, green eyes sharp even across the distance. He stood frozen, staring. My heart leapt into my throat. It couldn’t be. I blinked, and he was gone, lost in the sea of tourists. I shook my head, forcing the image away. “Don’t be ridiculous,” I muttered under my breath. Axel Hendrikson wasn’t in Paris. He couldn’t be. I hadn’t seen him in five years.
