I was staring blankly at my phone when it buzzed.
Unknown Number: We need to talk.
I frowned. “Great,” I muttered. “Another journalist?”
A second message came through immediately.
Unknown Number: It’s Peyton. Don’t ignore me. I can help you fix this.
My stomach tightened. Peyton Reynolds. Of course.
I typed back before I could stop myself. There’s nothing for us to talk about.
Her reply came instantly. You might want to hear me out. I can make that last news outlet stop posting about you.
I froze, staring at the message. That outlet had been relentless—daily articles about my supposed “scandal,” my “manipulative charm,” my “failed career.” They were destroying my name one headline at a time.
