Mark of Suspicion

Mariana’s POV His voice cut through me like the wolfsbane dagger in my bag that at that very moment, I wanted the earth to split open and swallow me whole. My entire body went cold and numb as he surveyed the dried wound with prying eyes. “M-Mariana Rose?” I whispered stuttering, completely ignoring the way he sniffed the blood in my hands because as much as possible, I still wanted to keep the lie. “Why did you call me that name?” “Where did you get this?” he snarled, referring to the wound in my hand instead of answering my question. My throat closed, then I opened my mouth with yet another lie. “I was out here looking for my necklace that I lost last time when I was here and then I was attacked with rogues.” The words tumbled out so quickly that I thought Rozen would not buy them.
