(Nisha) Kevari’s face froze; her ever-moving hair fell limp down her back. Llana and I placed our hands on her shoulders until she was able to speak. “Are you saying? Are you saying I had a baby?” Kevari asked, her voice barely above a whisper. I looked toward Cameron, and he swallowed. “I’m unsure,” he admitted. “Not all of the markers seemed to have something; I’m not sure if something of value was needed for the change or if it was something left behind.” He shrugged but had to look away from Kevari. “It could have been something from your childhood, maybe a sibling,” he added, but I knew he didn’t quite believe that. “If that was your marker, it was near mine,” I whispered. “Before I knew what actually happened, a part of me knew what must have happened there; it repulsed me.”
