I wake up a day later and find myself connected to machines.
“Alpha,” a nurse greets with a forced smile.
“Where am I?”
“You are in the hospital…” she hesitates. “Your… blood pressure was too high, and you bled a lot.”
She is still explaining when everything comes back to me. Xaden, Xena. Oh Lord, it can’t be true.
“Xaden,” I mutter, and she casts her eyes. Her reaction is enough to tell me that all that was real. My son is gone, and it is all my fault. Xena must be devastated. I have to find her.
“Don’t,” the warns when I try to sit up and fall back on the bed. I frown, a split headache hitting me. My left hand gave away. My left leg feels numb.
“You had a stroke…well…I think so. We don’t really have a doctor, but it looks like it,” she blurts out while my head starts spin
