The sound hit me like a hard punch. It was a scream, a big, loud scream. My body jumped. My heart started to beat very, very fast. It was the alpha King. His voice was full of fire and it cut through the quiet air of the pack house.
"Lila! Lila! Come down here. Right now!"
Keith, was next to me. He was drawing pictures on the floor. His head snapped up. He was scared. I could see it.
"Mommy?" he whispered. His voice was small, like a little bird.
I knelt down, my hand shaking a little. I touched his soft hair. "It's okay, baby," I said. My voice was not as steady as I wanted it to be. "Mommy will be back right now. You stay here. Be a good boy."
