1 – The Sweetest Goodbye

1039 Words
REMUS found Becca at the hill. The teenager is under an old tree. He smiled when he called their conversation not long ago. The teenager girl believed that she owned that old tree. She considered the tree her own since they were the only pack member that spent most of their time in the hill. And between the two of them, Becca spent most of her time, after training, under that old tree. If he is not mistaken, the tree was planted by his great grandfather. Needless to say that it is way older that both of them combine. In this hill, he and Becca started training together years ago. He found her doing the exercises of the training warriors below. Instead of mocking the then thirteen year old girl, he taught her some moves he learned from the training he went through. Becca earned his respect the first time he caught her in the hills. The teenager knew what she wants in life. It is quite obvious that she adore her father, the current gamma of the pack, that she wanted to be a warrior just like him. Unlike any other girls her age, she started on working what she wants to be instead of doing what most of the girls did. Becca never mind  getting dirty, on getting sweaty. She did not even blush on his presence, the incoming alpha. With a sigh, he approached the gamma’s first born. He sat beside the fifteen-year old girl. Becca remained looking at the cabins below the hills. The training is done at this time of the day. The sun is already low on the horizon. It made the view below even more mesmerizing. The not so bright blaze from the sun added more character on panoramic view of the territory. The hills were still part of the territory of Cloudless Moon Pack. The pack owned a few acres of land that run across the deep forest. The wide expanse of the territory sustains the needs of the members of the pack to run in their wolf form away from the prying eyes of the human population. At the center of this huge land nested the commercial area. Remus and his pack were werewolf shifters. Currently, Luke, Remus' father holds the position of the alpha. Soon, he will be holding the same position. The alpha title has been in Franklin's family for generations. The previous alphas of the Cloudless Moon pack thought ahead. They built amenities that would give convenience to the pack. A building stood where offices reside. On one side, it housed the offices of the alpha, luna and beta. They shared one conference room designed for a maximum of 20 participants while on the other side was the cafeteria and the infirmary. Another building has four floors. It housed the pack school from pre-school to middle school. The members of the pack will enroll in the human school when they reach senior high as well as those who wanted to pursue college degree. There was also a park. There were an ice cream and pizza parlor nearby. A coffee shop and two bake shops also exist beside the convenience store. These businesses were owned by the pack members. They rent from the alpha but the money goes to the pack basic needs. The alpha wanted the pack to be self-sufficient. The services given should be paid so that every member will have a decent salary to provide for the family and himself. The alpha family have other investments outside the pack territory. Needless to say that it sustain most of the pack expenses. "When are you leaving?" Becca broke the silence between them. It also bring him back to the present. He remember the conversation he and his father had a couple of days ago. Though he needs no more convincing since he knew that that he has to underwent the same training his father had gone through as an heir to the alpha position, the knowledge that he has to leave for a long time made him sad.  It would be a long time, months or maybe years, before he step back to the pack territory. His father already instilled in his young mind that he is the future alpha and the things that he has to go through and the possible sacrifices along the way. He turned to the girl beside him. She still refused to glance at him. "Tomorrow at dawn." He responded. Guilt marred his face when he heard her sigh. He and the teenager got closer due to the trainings that they had. The training they went through improved the  skills of the teenagers. It also helped him somehow. He never knew that he has the patience to teach someone, anyone. Well, Becca was a fast learner. He sent her a sad smile when their eyes met. He felt bad when she did not returned it. "Why didn't you tell me? I had to hear it from my parents." "Because I thought it would hurt less. I'm sorry, Becca." "Will you be fine there?" "Of course, buddy. Father won't send me there if his only heir will be in trouble." The hint of sadness eased from his heart when he heard her chuckle. Finally, the teenager faced him. The gloomy expression in her face eased a little. The atmosphere is lighter compared from a while ago. Her laughter could light up the place. Remus noticed this from their years of friendship. Whenever he heard her giggle or the sight of her smirk, he knew that the rest of the day will be a lot better. "I'm gonna miss you, alpha." "I'm gonna miss you, too, loser." "Hey!" The girl tackled him to the ground. Before he could defend himself, Becca sat on his middle and he was pushed on his back. It never fails to get the girl agitate the teenager when being told that ‘loser’ word. A mad Becca is cuter than a calm Becca. “Take it back!” Laughter echoed in the hills as they continue bickering and fight for dominance. Sadness was lost in the wind. It will going to be a while before this moment happen again. Or not, since the alpha responsibilities are  awaiting Remus. For sure, everything will be quite different when he return from his schooling abroad. But, the pack comes first.
