LEIGH I took a long, burning shower when I got back to my room. The house had gone quiet by then. Everyone had scattered since Ava left the living room. But the water didn't cool me down. The rage in my chest was unventilated and relentless, packing behind my ribs. I would've won that race. I was this close to having the satisfaction of seeing Alfie's smug little face break when I crossed the finish line and knocked the cockiness right out of him.
