"Please, your majesty. Reject me. I beg you, let me go." Ishan tears fell as he pleaded, his voice trembling.
"All I need is your rejection."
He stepped forward, longing to embrace him, but he backed away, unable to bear the weight of his touch.
"I want to be free from this bond. If we are meant to be, our paths will cross again."
His heart ached as he replied, "You will feel pain. Rejection is not easy, Ishan."
"I don’t need a mate if that’s your worry," he replied, his calm masking the turmoil inside. "I’m already suffering the loss of my son; your rejection would be less painful than this anguish."
He sighed deeply, torn between fulfilling his wish and fearing the permanence of rejection.
"Let me hold you one last time," he said softly.
He consented, and he embraced him, releasing pheromones to share his empathy.
As tears fell, they held each other in a moment of silent understanding.
When he finally stepped back, he declared, "I will grant you your freedom if it helps you heal." His heart shattered with each word, yet he prioritized his happiness.
"I... reject you, Ishan," he choked out, closing his eyes against the pain.
Ishan gasped, overwhelmed, collapsing to his knees in despair.
"No..." Ishan gasped, clutching his chest as the king’s mark pulsed painfully.
"It’s painful," he noted gently, heartbroken to see him suffer.
Ishan replied, "I accept your rejection, Zarim."
"Take your time to heal. You are free now."
