ARTEMIS lay down on the bed, and the man went on top of her. His lips found hers. Her breath hitched, and a soft gasp was lost in the joining of their mouths. His hands, firm but gentle, cupped her face, his thumbs caressing her cheeks. Her fingers tangled in his hair, bringing him closer, deepening their kiss.
She was confused about herself. She doesn’t know the man, but she doesn’t know why her body was not resisting.
Their kiss was not just a kiss, but it was a silent conversation, a language spoken without words. It was a symphony of sensation: the warmth of their skin, the soft press of their lips, and the taste of each other.
When their lips parted, the man smiled. “Beautiful.”
Suddenly, Artemis woke up because of the alarm clock ringing insistently on the nightstand, and as she woke up, she was acting like she was kissing someone. She touched her lips because it felt like her dream was real. She dreamt of kissing someone in her dreams, but in her dream, the man’s face was blurred. But she was not resisting that man as if she wanted more.
She could only cover her face in embarrassment. This was the first time she had a wet dream like that.
“This is so embarrassing,” she said to herself and covered herself with a blanket.
Later, Artemis dragged herself out of bed. After fixing her bed, she went to the bathroom. As usual, she did her morning routine, took a bath, cooked breakfast, got dressed, and went to work.
Her apartment was within walking distance of the hospital where she worked. And while she was on her way, she passed by her favorite Milktea Shop. But as she passed by, it was already open, and she couldn’t look inside. The wall was made of glass, so she could see inside.
Artemis saw Anya’s brother and the man whom she didn’t know his name. The man was handsome and had a unique pair of eyes. She had already seen a lot of handsome men. Actually, Anya’s brother was also a handsome man, like a Greek God. But the man beside Anya’s brother was uniquely handsome to her. It was just that his skin was white and pale. When she saw him the other day, she felt something within her, as if it was pulling her towards the man.
Artemis took a deep breath and continued walking towards her destination.
Unbeknownst to Artemis, Theo saw her.
Theo followed his mate with his gaze.
Cassiel shook his head. “Your Majesty, make a move.”
Theo could only sigh. “I don’t know how.” And that’s the truth. He doesn’t know how to show himself in front of his mate.
Artemis is a human. For supernatural beings, humans were weak.
In terms of strength, Theo was stronger than Artemis. Theo could do anything he wanted for his mate. But he didn’t want to scare her.
Cassiel didn’t know if he could pity Theo or ignore him. Just like what happened to Ezequiel before, all he could do was to protect their mates, and he had nothing to do. Chasing their mates was already their problem and not his. All he could give was his moral support, and that was the most important thing he could do.
Theo was looking forward to Artemis going to the Milktea Shop to order drinks. Every day the chime sounded, he would look at the door, making Cassiel shake his head and let out a small breath.
“She will come in the afternoon,” said Cassiel.
Theo was dispirited. Sighing, he left his work and stepped out of the shop.
Cassiel let Theo be.
Theo was walking on the sidewalk when he saw a kid crossing the street. The red light was on, which meant the car would stop, and the pedestrian could cross. But he noticed a car, it was fast, and didn’t have any means to stop.
The people were now yelling.
“The child!”
“The child!”
Even though the people were yelling, no one dared to run to save the kid.
At that moment, Theo was the only one who could save the kid, even though he was far from the pedestrian lane. With lightning speed, before the car hit the child, he grabbed him and took him to the other side of the road.
After putting the kid down, he quickly left the place. Theo didn’t notice that Artemis was there and saw what he had done.
Artemis was stunned and didn’t know if what she saw was her hallucinations or if it was real. She was standing at the side of the road, thinking about what she saw. She was there for a minute and didn’t notice that the mother of the child had arrived and took her son away as if nothing had happened.
While leaving, Theo used his power to erase the memory of the people who saw what had happened, but he didn’t know that his mate was looking at him from a distance. And her memory of him saving the child at high speed was not erased.
Meanwhile, Artemis stood there. What she had seen keeps replaying in her mind. The man was fast, as if his speed were like lightning. And she couldn’t be mistaken that it was that man.
When Artemis came back to her reverie, she waited for the red light, stopping the car, and crossed the street. She quickly went to the Milktea Shop and saw that man behind the counter.
“Hi,” Artemis greeted.
Theo immediately looked up when he heard his mate’s voice. A smile automatically formed on his lips. But he couldn’t help but look at his mate’s neck and gulped. He could see the vein popping where the blood of his mate was running. His mate’s blood smelled sweet, and he was attracted to plunging his fangs into her neck.
His mate’s blood was like a drug, attracting him.
Cassiel cleared his throat.
Both Artemis and Theo looked at Cassiel.
“What?” Cassiel asked, pretending that he hadn’t done anything. And then looked at Artemis. “The usual?”
Artemis smiled. “The usual. Thank you.”
Theo frowned. He doesn’t like the way Cassiel and his mate talk. So, he walked towards Cassiel and put his hand over his shoulder. “Don't you have anything else to do?”
“I don’t have.”
Theo smiled. His red eyes showed. “You have.”
Cassiel understood what Theo meant, so he sighed while shaking his head and went behind the cashier's counter.
When Theo faced his mate, his blue-green eyes returned. “Please wait, Miss,” he said with a smile.
Artemis nodded her head and sat on the empty seat. She simply observed the man. He was calm and composed. Now, he wasn’t sure if it was really him who saved that kid or if it was another person.
Theo made the milktea that his mate wanted. And while making the milktea, he could see Cassiel from the corner of his eye, grinning and shaking his head. He chose to ignore Cassiel. After making the milktea for his mate, he tapped the buzzer to get her attention.
“May I know your name?” Theo asked even though he already knew. He just wanted to introduce himself, but it would look weird if he told his mate that he already knew her name.
Artemis didn’t know what was happening to her, but a smile automatically formed on her lips. “Artemis.”
Theo smiled brightly. “Theo.”
Artemis nodded and left, taking the milktea with her. But before stepping out of the shop, she looked back and looked at Theo. He was really different. She thought and left.
“Dude, your actions were so lame,” Cassiel said, teasing the Vampire King.
Theo showed his fangs, and Cassiel immediately zipped his mouth, but he restrained his laugh.
“Cassiel, I’ve been wanting to drink blood since yesterday. I can smell that your blood smells sweet.” Theo’s eyes turned red.
Cassiel stepped back, raising his hand in the air as if he were surrendering. Theo was very hot-headed today. It’s better to talk less. Vampires are too hot-headed, same as werewolves, sometimes, though.
After the Milktea Shop closed, Theo went to the hospital, stood on the rooftop, and waited for Artemis to come out. When he saw her coming out of the entrance, while he was on the rooftop, he silently followed her.
He was following Artemis to ensure she would go home safe.
The world is not safe now. It was full of bad people.
Theo was walking onto the rooftop of the buildings, so even if Artemis felt him, she couldn’t see where he was. When Artemis arrived at her apartment, he smiled and looked around. From where he stood, he could see the people below, walking on the streets and crossing the pedestrian lane.
He was suddenly alerted when he smelled an unpleasant scent that lingered in the air. It was not a smell coming from decaying things or whatever.
It was a scent coming from a Rebel Vampire. And he could smell the fresh blood that lingered within. The Rebel Vampires were creating chaos in the Northern Region, adding to his problem. And they have this unpleasant scent that distinguishes them from them.
“They’re here.”
THEO LOOKED FOR THE rebel vampires and found them in the forest near the city. He could also smell the scent of fresh blood in the air.
Vampires need blood to survive. Blood is their food. But it was their rule that they should not drink fresh human blood. They can drink human blood, but it is only once a month to sustain their strength. And they always drink animal blood.
Death was the punishment for those vampires who would drink human blood, especially those vampires who would cross the border between the Human Race and the Celestial Continent just to fulfill their desire for human blood.
Theo hid his aura and looked at the rebel vampires who were enjoying their feast.
Since ancient times, rebel vampires have been the kind of people who give the ruler trouble. And since he sat on the throne, rebel vampires have been his top problem because of the trouble they were giving him. They would rob and cause trouble for the people in the Northern Region.
Theo stood at the branch of a tree, looking at the rebel vampires who were at the happiest moment of their lives. He pitied those humans who became their victims, but he couldn’t do anything about it. And the only thing he could do was to punish the rebel vampires who killed humans for their desire for blood.
Theo unhide his aura. And he saw the rebel vampire’s panic. His powerful aura made them panic.
The corner of his lips lifted as he jumped off the ground and landed perfectly on his feet. And then he makes his way towards the rebel vampires. With his speed, he appeared in front of them instantly.
He smirked. “Nice to meet you, people,” he said as his power spread throughout the place, burning the rebel vampires in their spots.
