Chapter 14

JUSTIN “YOU may now kiss your wife,” said Ninong with a smile. When I looked at Riz, it seemed like she wasn’t breathing. Is that how much she didn’t want to marry me? Or was she just really nervous? I won’t deny it. What I did was similar to a shotgun wedding, but it was also for her sake. If her father hit her or someone in her family when they found out she was pregnant, she would be even more hurt if we lived together in a house that wasn’t legal. And then there’s also Veronica, who was rushing us to get married for some reason. I feel like there’s something I’m forgetting about her. “Just on the cheek,” Riz whispered to me as I leaned down. I smiled when I heard what she said. We went beyond just a kiss on the cheek, but now that we were married, we couldn’t kiss on the lips? Forget that. I kissed her lips instead. And because she was surprised, her lips slightly parted. I took that chance to deepen the kiss. I didn’t care if there were other people around. What I didn’t expect was a new emotion taking over me. If I hadn’t felt Riz tapping my chest, I wouldn’t have stopped kissing her. She was so addictive, and if we were going to stay under the same roof, I would be in so much trouble. ON the way home, I noticed a car that had been following us for a while. Because of my car accident not too long ago, there are times when I think someone is trying to harm me. The only person I know who has a grudge against me is my father’s illegitimate child. But who knows, there could be more like him in the business world. “Is there something wrong?” Riz asked me. I couldn’t see her face clearly because there were few streetlights here in Talisay. “Nothing. Why?” “I’ve noticed you keep looking back. Is someone following us, or do you know the person in that car?” She yawned and looked like she was getting sleepy. I shook my head. “Don’t worry about it. Aren’t you hungry?” I changed the subject so she wouldn’t think too much. I didn’t want her to get stressed and have a stomachache. “I’m not hungry, just tired.” I pulled her closer to me and let her rest her head on my chest. If anyone were to see us right now, they would think we were truly in love. The contract wasn’t even for a full year. She told me she was two months pregnant, which means we have about seven months before she gives birth. “You smell good,” she whispered to me. She sounded sleepy. One of her arms rested on my stomach. Her hand rested on my chest, and as time went on, the pounding of my heart grew stronger. That was the first compliment she gave me since she arrived yesterday. Before I could say anything else, I heard her soft snores. Having her in my arms felt right. Is this how I felt that night? It wasn’t long before we arrived home. The car behind us turned the other way before we entered Star Tollway, so I thought it was just a coincidence that they were following us earlier. As for Riz, I didn’t have the heart to wake her up, so I carried her into the house and took her to our room. Before the wedding, she was staying in the guest room. But now that we were married, it was only right that she stayed in the master bedroom. I didn’t want anyone to know that we were sleeping in separate beds. Everyone knew that I worked in Manila, so I wasn’t always here in Batangas. Besides, the air here in Batangas is fresher, and that would be good for a pregnant woman. I just didn’t want anyone to catch a glimpse of us and let it get back to her father. When I laid her on the bed, she still didn’t wake up. I had already taken off her shoes and immediately lay down beside her. The dress looked perfect on her, and she seemed comfortable. But I think she would be more comfortable if she could change into a cotton outfit. Should I start undressing her? What if she screams? I should leave her be. But I changed my mind when she started scratching her neck and arms. As she moved, her dress lifted slightly, revealing her smooth thighs. I swallowed hard. When I saw her come out of the room earlier, I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She looked very simple and chic. She didn’t have much makeup on, and when I got closer, it seemed like she only had powder and lipstick on. Her hair was neatly combed and tied up. The dress and shoes were perfect for her. Riz looked perfect on our wedding day. And knowing she’s pregnant with my child added to her glow. The ice helped with the swelling on her cheeks. I thought at first that her injury was severe, but it faded eventually. She said it’s still tender, though. I took a T-shirt from my closet. It’s huge on her, but at least it would be easier for me to put it on her compared to her own clothes. She will need new clothes soon as her belly grows. I managed to unzip her dress since she was lying on her side. I carefully lifted her arm, and she didn’t protest. Riz was wearing a strapless bra, and because she was pregnant, her chest was starting to feel constricted. She is petite but not entirely flat-chested. I didn’t dare remove her bra. I slipped my T-shirt over her and then covered her with a blanket. That was quite an ordeal, and I needed a cold shower afterward. Riz didn’t have to do anything to arouse me, and yet I had a f*****g hard-on. I have a healthy s*x life, and with a fiancée like Veronica who loves s*x, I’m not used to being deprived. However, everything will change now that I have a wife. And seven months of celibacy seems like an eternity even now. I better not injure my hand, or I’m totally screwed.
