Chapter 34

1156 Words
JUSTIN I ASKED Manang to show Matet and Reysa to their rooms while I made a phone call. I canceled my appointment with the doctor. Now everything that happened at the club and the night Riz and I had our moment, up to the night I had my accident, is clear. I looked for Riz inside and didn’t find her in the room. She wasn’t in the kitchen either, so I thought she might have gone to see her friends. But I was wrong. I found her in the pantry, looking at the ingredients. She was busy looking around and didn’t realize I was there. I leaned against the doorframe and watched her. How could Riz forget that she was the one who asked to be taken as my wife? If her friends hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have remembered everything. She was a virgin that night, and it was indeed her first time. She wasn’t lying to me. I quietly walked over to her and kissed her on the hair. “What are you doing here? Just tell Manang what you want to cook, and she’ll take care of it.” I hugged her from behind and caressed her belly. It was already round, and I was excited to see our child. With my memory back, I know that what she’s carrying is mine. Who would have thought that something would grow between us that night? When I remember that, I can’t help but smile. I remember how hot it was that night and how I woke up in the morning, annoyed because she wasn’t beside me. “I can cook myself; I don’t need to rely on anyone else.” She answered my question but didn’t look at me. “I didn’t say you couldn’t. I’m just saying you might get tired. You’re pregnant.” If she was used to doing a lot back at her house, it’s not the same here. “That’s exactly it. I’m pregnant, not crippled.” She turned to me, and when our eyes met, she glared at me. That was the same thing she did that night. “You’re quite grumpy when you’re pregnant.” I lightly bit the edge of her ear and teased her. “Justin,” she whined at me. “I’m just being sweet. I’m leaving for Manila after dinner.” She didn’t respond. “Aren’t you going to miss me?” “I’ll be with our child.” “Our child,” I corrected her. This time, she turned to face me, but I didn’t let go of her. “You don’t have proof yet, do you? My word is my only proof. And since we don’t know each other well, aside from the fact that I was drunk and you lost your memories—” “I remember it now.” Her lips parted in surprise. “All of it?” “I already married you, didn’t I?” I couldn’t help but grin. That was a moment I would never forget. Technically, she proposed to me. “W-What?” My wife looked confused. “You know, I think you’re probably bored here, so you’re imagining all sorts of things. You sound like I asked you to be my wife.” Riz shook her head and lightly tapped my chest. She tried to pull away from me but failed. “Justin, it’s hot, but you’re so close.” “You honestly don’t remember proposing to me?” “What? Why would I propose to you?!” Riz looked shocked. “Stop it. You’re being annoying again.” She really doesn’t remember. “Let me refresh your memory then. I approached you. Instead of calling me Paul, which is the name I gave you, you called me hottie. Then you looked at my hands. You saw that I wasn’t wearing a ring and said you’d rather marry me. Do you remember now?” Riz looked horrified. “I would never do that!” “Well, you did. I mean, your drunk self did. You even initiated a kiss with me. You didn’t know what to do, so I taught you. I was your first kiss, and— Ouch!” “Stop it, Calderon. If I didn’t know you were a businessman, I’d think you were a writer. Your imagination is wild.” She turned her back to me, trying to shake off my arm that was wrapped around her. “Turn around.” “And why should I?” While she was talking, she did as I asked, her face scrunched up. “Kiss me.” “A-Again? I don’t want to.” Riz was flustered, as if she was caught off guard. “Kiss me,” I repeated. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed me on the cheek. Riz even looked pleased with herself. “Again.” And when she kissed me for the second time, I turned my head, causing our lips to meet. I teased her lips, and whenever she gasped, I would pull away. Tracing her lips and showering her face with tiny kisses drove me insane. I was determined to make her remember that night. Her arms instinctively wrapped around my neck, pulling me closer to her. “S-Stop teasing— Oh my God,” she whispered, breathless, and buried her face in my chest. I kissed the top of her head and waited until she told me the rest. By now, I knew she was recalling some events from Club Pyre. She meant to say stop teasing. That’s what she told me that night. I remember everything; I wasn’t drunk. She was the only girl who kissed me first without knowing what to do but had the courage to do so. And while it’s easier to deal with women who know how to please men, I found myself enjoying what Riz could give me and what I could teach her. “How much do you remember?” she asked me. “Everything, including you asking me to take you home. You said not to take you back to your place because no one wanted to be with you there. You also said you’d go with me because I was handsome.” I just made up the last part, but it was worth a shot. She looked at me with a furrowed brow. “I did not say the last part.” I stifled a laugh. “So you remember that?” She looked away. “I still don’t.” She’s lying. I think she wants me to replay what happened. “Then let me show you one more time.” I took her hand and guided her out of the pantry. “I still have things to—” “Later. I’ll let you cook or do whatever you want after this.” That is, if she still has the energy, but I didn’t dare say that.
