RIZ
IT has been three days since Justin left, and we still haven’t talked. Thankfully, my friends are here. They keep me company, so I’m somewhat entertained. I didn’t follow Justin’s advice to stay overnight at the resort. Instead, Reysa and I decided to go on a day trip using her car. No matter how much Manong insisted on driving us, I didn’t want to bother them. Besides, it was a chance for him to rest. He’s getting old, just like Manang.
“Stop staring at your cell phone. It’s about to melt,” Matet joked. I was in the front, and she was in the back. Reysa was driving while munching on chicharrón.
“I was just checking the time. It’s you!” The truth is, I have been waiting for Justin to send me a message or call me.
I couldn’t help but worry since he didn’t tell me where the site he was going to was. I shouldn’t care. Because no matter how many times I rewind it in my mind, we got married because of the baby, and even though we didn’t fulfill everything in the agreement, it is still a marriage of convenience.
“Is it really the time, or are you just waiting for your Hottie?”
I threw a piece of chicharrón at Matet, but she caught it and ate it.
“What about you? Aren’t you waiting for Ryan? If I know, you’re worse than I am.” They’ve been together for the last two years, and they’re still going strong. He’s a nice guy, and I have nothing against him. He’s not strict, and when we go out as friends, he doesn’t stop Matet.
Matet’s face suddenly soured. “Don’t mention that jerk’s name to me.” They might still be in a fight. “I told him not to buy a motorcycle, but he didn’t listen. He waited for me and Reysa to leave before doing it.”
“And how did you find out?” It might just be a misunderstanding. Often, rumors ruin relationships.
“Someone commented on his social media account, asking to see his new motorcycle. So, I called him earlier and asked about it. The jerk admitted it and even tried to justify himself. He said he was being careful, blah-blah-blah. So annoying!”
I laughed at her. She was so worked up about her boyfriend. “Let it go. You’ll still ride on his motorcycle. Plus, you’ll get a free hug.”
“Hmp! He can hug his annoying self.”
Reysa started laughing, and soon we were all caught up in it.
“Just tell him to use that motorcycle in his village. Come on! He’s a guy, so of course, he’s into motorcycles. At least it’s not another girl,” Reysa said.
Matet’s eyes widened. “Oh! If he dares to like another girl, I’ll tie them both to that motorcycle and set it on fire.”
Our laughter grew louder. I know Matet wouldn’t actually do that. She gets like this when she doesn’t get her way, but later on, she and Ryan will be fine. She can’t stand being away from that guy; she loves him.
“It’s perfect that we’re going to the beach. You’ll cool off once we go swimming. We should also get a mani-pedi,” I said to her. In my entire life, I’ve only had my nails done a handful of times. It feels like a waste of money, and besides, I’m saving up.
“A miracle of miracles!” Reysa exclaimed in surprise. “You’re going to have your nails done? Tsk. You’re really becoming a lady now.”
Matet laughed. “What lady? Riri here is already married! But in fairness, you really are blooming now. You look great with your Hottie. Is he big?”
I felt my face heat up. “Matet, watch your mouth!” But she and Reysa kept laughing and wouldn’t stop until I answered. “I’m not answering that.”
“Did you have a fever?” Matet asked.
“Did you get up this morning?” Reysa added.
“Oh! It looks like it is big. Riri is all red. Is it fat?”
I wanted to disappear right now. Since I’m the first one married among the three of us, they keep asking questions. If it’s about size and fullness . . . well, let’s just say I feel completely full.
“Oh, fat! Silence means yes!” Their laughter grew louder. “I bet something happened in the shower!”
“There was probably some crawling around at dawn,” Reysa said.
“I don’t know about you two.” By the time we arrived at the resort, we were still laughing and teasing each other nonstop.
Wintara Sands is beautiful, and if I were to rate the place, I’d give it five stars right away. The rustic design using dark wood and walls painted in white gives a relaxing vibe to all the guests, allowing them to forget the hustle and bustle of the city or the stress of our daily lives.
“It’s beautiful here! We should have stayed overnight,” Matet said.
She’s right. We should have slept here for a night to explore the place. A day trip wouldn’t suffice for the beauty of the location.
“Why don’t you ask Justin? I’m sure he’d agree. He’s not home anyway. We could all share a room to save money.” Reysa knows how I think when it comes to money. I really don’t like spending, even though I have money, and I’m not fond of free things either.
“Divide it by three? I’m in.” Matet was all smiles and seemed to have forgotten her annoyance with Ryan. “I wish Ryan were here.”
“Hey! Don’t make me jealous when I don’t have a love life right now.” Reysa broke up with her boyfriend last year because she saw him with another girl. She didn’t become a man-hater, but it made her cautious regarding romantic relationships.
I laughed at her and decided to call Justin. My first call didn’t ring, so I tried again. This time, it rang. I got excited when he answered my call.
“Hey, sorry to bother you. I just wanted to ask—”
“You’re just asking? Why did you even call? Why don’t you just go and disappear? Forever is good,” a woman on the other line replied grumpily. I couldn’t be mistaken.
It’s Veronica.
