RIZ
AFTER dinner, we continued chatting in the living room. My two friends finished the whole bottle of wine while I held onto my glass of milk. Even though we were at the resort, I didn’t neglect my fresh milk to keep my bones strong for Baby.
When Reysa and Matet fell asleep, I went to the bedroom too, but I couldn’t settle down, so I got up again. I took my cell phone and went outside. I sat on a swing. I was very careful because I didn’t want to fall. Still no missed calls. No messages either.
The breeze, the sway of the swing, and the little bulbs of light added to the drowsiness that was building up in me. So I let myself fall asleep. The fresh air felt much better than the air conditioning.
I heard footsteps and felt someone staring at me. I opened my eyes, and a familiar face greeted me.
“Did I wake you?” he asked. It was Justin.
“How did you know where to find me?” My husband smiled. “Have you been here long?” I tried to get up, but he stopped me. So that’s why he was going to sit beside me on the swing. “We might both fall off.”
“Relax. It’s sturdy. How was your day?” He wrapped his arms around me.
Justin looked tired. “It was good. Have you eaten?” He was checking on me, but between us, I was the one relaxing while he was the tired one.
“I had coffee,” I replied.
“I’ll order food. You haven’t eaten yet, and you came straight here.” His legs slightly went over mine, tightening his embrace around me. I couldn’t get up.
“I can’t eat. I just want to rest. Now tell me, what did you do while I was away?” One of his hands played with my hair and then gently caressed my belly, staying there.
“We were supposed to just come here for the day, but it was so beautiful. A few hours didn’t seem enough. And… I was pissed.”
“Because?”
“I won’t ask why she was with you. But I just wanted to tell you that I called you, and she answered.” Instead of commenting, he slightly bit my earlobe. “Justin!”
“Are you jealous?” he asked me in a whisper.
“What? Why would I be jealous? I’m just reminding you of our agreement. How would you feel if I were with my ex?”
He laughed and pinched my nose. I pushed his hand away. “How would I feel? Nothing. Because you don’t have an ex. You only have a Hottie CEO, and that’s me.” Despite all his tiredness, he still had the energy to tease me.
“Oh, is that so?” His eyebrows raised as our eyes met. I glared at him and slightly turned to lie down. “Maybe I should have had many boyfriends so that—”
His hand slipped under my T-shirt and began to squeeze my breast. He was busy kissing my neck, and I could feel something hard poking at the back of my thigh.
“You were saying?” His voice sounded husky. No matter how pleasant the breeze was, it was overshadowed by the heat building up inside me.
“Someone might see us here; it’s embarrassing.” I tried to remove his hand, but he wouldn’t let go. He rolled the part on his palm and squeezed. Earlier, he was so eager.
“We’re married.”
“With an agreement,” I insisted.
“About that, we’ll talk about it when we get home tomorrow.”
I thought only women knew how to multitask, but apparently, men do too. Kissing, talking, and his hands were all over the place.
I turned to face him. “Why can’t we talk about it now? By the way, why was Ve—” He cut off what I was about to say with a kiss. It was hot and eager, as if he would run out of time. At first, I didn’t reciprocate, but he eventually coaxed me into it.
My drowsiness faded away. Somehow, his kisses made my worries disappear. Even Veronica’s answering the phone didn’t bother me anymore. When Justin suggested we go inside the house, I followed him. If I hadn’t insisted, he would have carried me to the bedroom. Although my friends were both drunk, it would still be embarrassing if they woke up and saw me being carried by my husband.
That night, he claimed me once more. Each of his claims could be compared to the rhythm of every wave crashing against the rocks. Soft and gentle yet powerful enough to rock my world.
JUSTIN
I ORDERED breakfast for Riz and her friends. It was already eight in the morning, but they were still fast asleep. Riz said her friends finished a bottle last night, so it wasn’t surprising they would wake up late. As for Riz, I kept her up last night. The last few days I was away from her took a toll on me. I wasn’t expecting to miss her that much. I wondered if she had eaten, if she slept well, if she didn’t forget her milk. She was always on my mind, and I was annoyed with the poor signal at the site.
I was supposed to stay there for five days, but I could only manage three days before coming home. My staff could handle it. There wouldn’t be any problems if Elvira hadn’t started messing with the construction. Worse, Veronica followed. I went there for work and had no reason to discuss anything personal.
I made a little bit of coffee for Riz and returned to the bedroom. We didn’t bother to get dressed last night and just slept wrapped in a blanket. I sat on the edge of the bed and briefly watched her. With each passing day, she became more beautiful. Some women complain that their noses get bigger, they get darker, or they look worse, but not Riz. She takes it one day at a time.
I kissed her on the cheek, and when she slightly moved, she let out a soft moan. Last night, her moans were restrained, and there were times she would just kiss me to avoid making a scene.
“Wake up, baby. I made you coffee.” It was only half a cup, but I knew it would help her start her day.
“I’m still sleepy.” She wouldn’t open her eyes and pulled the blanket over her face. She looked like a little kid struggling to wake up for school.
“Your coffee will get cold. Should I change it to milk?”
She removed the blanket and opened her eyes. Even though they were half shut, she tried to sit up, clutching the blanket to cover her body.
“Where did you throw my shirt?” she asked me, clearly annoyed that I woke her up.
“You don’t need it,” I joked.
Riz blushed and reached for the coffee from me. “Are they awake yet?”
“They were still asleep when I came back to the room. By the way, I’m going to the office tomorrow, but I’ll be back in the afternoon. Do you want to come with me?”
Her brow furrowed. “For what?”
“I just thought we should pay your father a visit. I can invite him to meet us for dinner if you don’t want to eat at your house.”
She paled, and it was clear she was hesitant. Was she really that afraid of her father and didn’t want to introduce me? We were already married.
“L-Later. You’re busy. There’s no pressure.” Her eyes became evasive as she sipped her coffee.
“Then let’s meet your mother.”
“No,” she immediately rejected. She looked more startled than if she had been burned.
“No? What’s wrong?”
“N-We fought, and she’s mad at me.” At least she didn’t hide that from me.
“About?” I thought it was about money, but I couldn’t be sure.
“Just the usual stuff. Don’t think about it. I’ll just wait for you here in Batangas. I won’t do anything there. I’ll just be a distraction for you.”
“If Reysa and Matet don’t have anything to do tomorrow, go shopping with them to pass the time. There are more baby items there and even your stuff.”
“We’ve already bought a lot. I’m fine.” When I didn’t respond, she couldn’t stand it anymore. “Fine. I’ll go with you, and I’ll ask them if they have anything to do. But if I don’t want to go, can I just stay in the penthouse?”
I took her hair tie and tied it up even though she hadn’t brushed it yet. “How about you stay with me in the office so I can see you all day?”
Riz gaped at me, momentarily stunned. “Huh? Hey, if you’re planning to do something in your office, that’s not happening.”
I raised an eyebrow. Riz is really amusing. What could she have read while I was away that made her think I would plan something in my office?
“Planning to do? Like what?”
“Don’t! You know what people do in the office— Just! You know.” Riz turned red even though it was early. I knew for sure she read something.
“Actually, I’ve never done it in the office. Do you want to try?” I joked. The sharp glare she shot at me was so intense I felt like I might collapse and bleed. “I’m kidding.”
“What were we supposed to talk about at home regarding the agreement? Can we talk about it now? You’re killing me with suspense.” She scratched her head.
“You remember the agreement we signed and breached?”
Riz nodded. “What about it? Did you forget to include something and—”
“Nothing. I just—” I couldn’t finish what I was saying when my cell phone rang. I canceled the call. “I just—” But it rang again. When I looked at the screen, it was my private investigator regarding the accident that happened to me. “I have to take this. Excuse me for a second.”
The police were thinking there was more to the accident that happened. Since their process was slow, I hired someone to help me find out the truth.
“What do you have?”
“Sir, good morning. Sorry to bother you, but I found something that might be of interest to you.”
“Hmm. What is it?” I had my suspicions, but I couldn’t be sure who it was. It’s hard to accuse someone, especially without evidence.
“Your brakes were cut, but it was done in a way that would make it look like an accident. In the initial investigation, it looked like it just broke, but the truth is, it was intentional. I asked some colleagues who know more about vehicles, and they all came to the same conclusion. It was deliberate, and there are people who know how to do that. They’re experts in this field, and you were lucky to survive the accident.”
“So someone is really out there to get me.”
“Yes, Sir. We still don’t know who, but I will do my best to find out as soon as possible. If you have time, I would like to know if you have any enemies or if there were any incidents a few months before your accident. If you noticed or felt anything unusual. For now, please be careful.”
