I didn't stay long at Magnus' place because my parents quickly found me, so I moved from place to place while studying until I ended up in a crime-ridden area of New York.
I rode a taxi to Brooklyn and searched the internet for an apartment near the school. The neighborhood wasn't as glamorous as uptown New York, but it would do. I didn't need anything fancy. All I needed was to get away from my parents and achieve my goal.
I had a little money left to pay the rent for my new place. It was running out fast, so I needed to find a source of income soon. I couldn't ask Magnus for help because that might make it easier for my parents to track me down.
The building was old, and the smell inside wasn't pleasant. Fortunately, the studio apartment I found was in decent condition.
