CASSIAN stood in the doorway of the guestroom like a sentinel. His mate lay in the center of the guest bed, her skin scrubbed clean from blood and dirt. Her long hair, once matted and crusted, now spread across the pillow like night thread, and he noticed the silver strands of hair that made her even more beautiful. She wore a soft linen gown.
Elena sat by the Alpha mate’s side, wiping her forehead with a damp cloth, and murmuring healing incantations under her breath as glowing salves soaked into her skin.
“Your mate has suffered, Alpha,” Elena said.
“Continue…” Cassian said in a low voice.
Elena took a deep breath. “She’s a hybrid.”
Cassian stood straight and walked towards the guest bed, staring at his mate. “What bloodline?”
“Witch,” Elena said and looked at Alpha Cassian, “and werewolf.”
Cassian stared at his mate. “It was no wonder that the Poison Witch trapped her in the Black Tower. Whatever she did to your mate, it nearly severed her from her wolf. But it’s still there. Trapped. Waiting.” She sighed deeply. “I also checked her blood. It was full of poison.”
“Can she be healed?” Cassian asked.
Elena smiled. “She’s healing now,” she said. “Not because of my magic but because of you, Alpha.”
Cassian frowned. “Me?” he even pointed at himself.
“You touched her, and the silver poison in your blood stopped hurting the moment she did.”
Cassian didn’t say anything. Maybe because of their bond, that’s why it happened.
“Alpha, she’s a product of a forbidden bond between a witch and a werewolf—”
“She is my mate, Elena,” Cassian said firmly. “I don’t care about those nonsense things. Those forbidden or whatever, it was just a way for the higher-ups or the Council to control the people. So, no one will become more powerful than them.”
Elena nodded.
Cassian stared at the girl lying still in the bed. He can see that there a peace in her face now, unlike earlier, which was full of grief.
He had no idea who she truly was, but he knew one thing… his mate would never go back to her life before. He wouldn’t let the Poison Witch take her from him.
Not while he breathed.
After Elena treated Alpha Cassian, she left the room.
Cassian sat on the edge of the bed and held his mate’s hand. Then it happened again, like what happened when he first held his mate. He felt the soothing warmth that ran down in his veins as if the silver poison in his veins had calmed down.
“My little mate, I’ll protect you from now on. No one will hurt you while you are by my side.”
Cassian left his mate and closed the door behind him.
As the door closed, Seris opened her eyes, and it glowed silver-white, but it was just for a while. She closed her eyes and her breathing evened. It was… as if something had just awakened and gone to sleep again.
Cassian went to his study room.
‘Zeph. Caine. In my study now.’ He reached out to their pack link.
‘Yes, Alpha.’
In not more than three minutes, Zeph and Caine arrived in Alpha’s study room.
“Alpha.”
“I have a mission for you. But let’s wait for the Beta. He will accompany you on this mission.”
Zeph and Caine exchanged looks. This was not the first time they were sent on a mission, but their Beta was not involved.
“Alpha, are we going to kill someone?” Zeph asked.
“No, but to find something for me.”
Then Beta Noah entered the room. He bowed his head. “Alpha, everything was ready.”
“Good,” Cassian nodded once. “Take Zeph and Caine with you,” he said, and put his token on the table. “Take this while doing the investigation. No one will dare to stop you once they see my token.”
The corner of Noah’s lips curled up. No one will really dare to stop the Alpha of the fiercest Rogue Pack in the world. Alpha Cassian was the most feared Rogue Alpha, and no one dared to mess with him. Though there are only a few in the pack, each pack member excels in different skills. And they were trained as skilled warriors.
Noah took the token. Together with Zeph and Caine, they bowed to the left.
CASSIAN had just got out of the car from work, but he already felt the mansion stirring with unease. He immediately got worried about his mate. But he felt a presence in the mansion. A very rare presence. It was powerful, but it didn’t pose any threat.
He raised an eyebrow when Finnley, the Gamma of the pack, stepped into his path.
“Alpha,” Finnley bowed, “we have a visitor.”
Cassian’s eyes narrowed. “I felt his presence. Who?”
Finnley looked troubled. “The Alpha King.”
Cassian halted mid-step and spoke with a flat voice. “The Alpha King? What the hell is he doing in our territory?”
Finnley spoke carefully, “He didn’t give a reason, Alpha. But he walked in like he owned the ground. He’s waiting for your studies. He went alone, but I smelled ten pack warriors who stood outside our border.”
A muscle ticked in Cassian’s jaw as he looked at the mansion where his study room was. He had never met the Alpha King, and this would be the first time he had met him. “Alpha King…” he muttered.
Cassian walked into his study room with his arms crossed, and suddenly felt like he didn’t own it when he saw a tall man, wearing a cloak, standing by the window with his back facing him. Every inch radiates power and pride. Though the Alpha King wears no crown, he doesn’t have to, because his presence is already enough.
Cassian felt like the weight of his title and territory held in defiance.
“Your Majesty,” he said smoothly. The Alpha King’s presence was powerful, but he was not afraid of him for some reason he didn’t know. “It’s either an honor, or maybe not to have you in my simple abode,” Cassian said, not bothering to bow. He doesn’t feel like doing it anyway.
The Alpha King turned, his eyes unreadable. “Rogue Alpha.” He looked at Cassian from head to toe. “I’ve so much about you.”
Cassian smirked. “Don’t worry, Your Majesty. We never hurt innocents. We don’t incite wars or stir trouble… unless they come to us first. I wonder what brought the great Alpha King down to my Rogue territory?”
The Alpha King stepped forward, not bothering to sit even if the Rogue Alpha offered it. “I heard you were good at finding people.”
Cassian tilted his head. “I don’t take the credit. My warriors did. But money usually makes me do it.”
The Alpha King didn’t bat an eyelash. “I’ll pay. Name your price.”
“Who am I finding?” Cassian raised a brow.
The Alpha King didn’t answer immediately. There was a pause, and then he said, “My son.”
Cassian halted. “Your… what?”
“My son,” the Alpha King repeated, looking into the Rogue Alpha’s eyes. “He went missing when he was a child. We lost him because of an attack on our pack. He disappeared without a trace. I’ve been looking for him. I’ve sent many people, but none have succeeded. You’re my last resort.”
Cassian stared at the Alpha King. The weight of his request was sinking in. The Alpha King wants him to find a royal child, missing and gone for decades?
“Why now?” Cassian asked carefully, his expression changing. He sat in the chair behind his desk, his hand fisted, not tightly, but as if he was suppressing something.
“Because if he’s alive,” the Alpha King said, his voice tightening, “he was already at the right age to take the throne.”
“What if he’s dead?” Cassian asked again.
“No,” The Alpha King said quickly. “I can feel it. He’s still alive.”
Cassian nodded. “You think he’s hiding among rogues or humans?” he asked.
The Alpha King didn’t answer.
Cassian sighed. He suddenly felt unsteady. “I’ll need details,” he said after a moment.
“You’ll have them,” the Alpha King replied, already toward the door. “And one warning…” he stopped at the threshold. “If you find him, and he doesn’t want to return. Don’t force him. Just let him.”
The Alpha King left, closing the door behind him.
Cassian let out the breath he’d been holding since earlier.
He stood and walked towards the window. He saw the Alpha King leaving his mansion, but he stopped and looked above—directly at him.
Cassian didn’t flinch at the way the Alpha King looked at him, but he felt the familiar feeling towards him.
He sighed deeply, watching the Alpha King as he left, and when the Alpha King was finally out of his sight, he unsealed the aura that he had sealed earlier.
“Cassian, looks like, sooner or later, you will get involved in the Royal Family,” he said to himself.
And that was what he didn’t want to happen, especially now that he had already found his mate.
Moreover, he looked at his palm… his silver poison was not cured yet.
