“What are you talking about, Mia?” Blair asked, looking at the rearview mirror. She changed direction and drove through other streets that did not lead to our destination, still the black car, which seemed to have two occupants, kept following us, and I turned to look at Blair with a worried expression. Eventually, we came across a shopping center, Blair parked the car and we entered the mall. We started running, looking for an opposite exit. When we came out, we hurriedly got into a taxi and nervously began to look everywhere. “What the hell?! Why are they following us?” Blair was annoyed. I'm sure it's the Andersons, it can only be them, they are stealing my peace of mind. When are they going to stop? I must get out of this marriage soon; I need to be free again. "I don't know B, I think my dear mother-in-law has something to do with this. I know that Jacob doesn't care about me, but for some reason Clarisse is interested in me returning to her son," I said, feeling dismayed. Until a few days ago, I had a “normal” life, but just in a short time everything had changed, I felt lost. “Crueler again, demon witch!” She made a gesture of displeasure. “We must protect you from those people. I don't know what they want from you, but I don’t think it is for anything good. I nodded, feeling bewildered. Upon arriving at Blair’s house, we searched the area for any suspicious car. When we got in, we were surprised to see that everything had been turned upside down; they were here. Blair entered her study and found it in the same state, causing her to hold her head in frustration. I went up to the guest room; they didn't leave anything untouched. I sat on the bed with my heart pounding and thought about calling Jacob to proceed with the divorce as fast as possible, so the harassment would end, and they could leave me alone once and for all. He must accept, he knows that our marriage ended a long time ago. I picked up the house phone with trembling hands. In the midst of all this trouble I had forgotten to buy a new phone. I dialed the numbers that I remembered, after three rings I heard his voice. “Jacob Anderson,” he responded with palpable arrogance. “Jacob,” I said, and he remained silent at the other end of the line. "Mia," I heard him speak softly, he must be with one of his lovers. “All this is not necessary, Jacob. I called to inform you that I have already spoken to my lawyer. I want a divorce. She will contact you soon. Let's not make this more difficult. I don't need your men trailing me, or hurting the people I know. Look on the positive side, you will be free to f**k any woman you come across, without hiding.” I tried to make my voice sound firm, but at this point it was very difficult. I heard him laugh. "No," he blurted out unexpectedly, I felt anger surging through my veins. “I will not give you a divorce, we must continue to be the perfect couple that we were. Do you remember our love? The time and all the moments we lived together? Come back home. I am waiting for you with open arms.” I could hear the irony in his voice. “What game are you playing, Jacob? Have you forgotten that I have the evidence of your infidelity in my hands?” I said as I looked at the place where I kept the memory card. “Do you have them? Just like you, I know those tricks. You have nothing, my love," he stated sarcastically. I dropped the phone and ran to search the place I kept the memory card, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. Of course, that was the reason they broke into the house. I touched my forehead in anguish. How could I be so stupid? “Did you see it, my love? You have nothing. We can't get divorced, because there is no reason. You know that my father will be a senator of the country and needs a united and perfect family. Come home soon, my love. Maybe after the campaign is over, I will set you free or, I don't know, I have to think about it, although I am the victim here. My beloved wife abandoned me for no reason, and kills one of her patients. Who would be interested in hiring someone so unreliable? Not to mention that you have run out of money, your life is over if you don't come back to me. You don't have much time to think about it, you do it the right way, or we will do it the hard way.” He threatened. I heard his irritating laughter before he cut off the call. “Stupid!” I screamed and hit the bed. I won't go crazy again. I must find a way to show the world who the i***t I married and his horrible family truly are. A couple of minutes later, Blair came to the room and took out a suitcase. She started packing some of her clothes, and I watched her in silence. “What are you doing?” I asked, seeing the haste with which she was packing. “You're going to Rome. I heard your conversation with Jacob, I’m sorry for being nosy.” she looked at me briefly and returned her attention to the suitcase. “I have already bought the ticket and spoken with Blake. I didn't give her details, but she's happy to have you.” “B, I don't want to stay married to him and I need to gather evidence of his infidelity, so I can get a divorce. It's the only way, and I also have to prove my innocence. At this point, I doubt that such a patient exists. I hate the idea of still being tied to him. Even though disappearing is the only option I have at the moment, someday, I will need to return and face them.” “The Anderson family is dangerous, they could force you to come back to the house, don't you see? Jacob just threatened you. They have enough power to make your life miserable. Go away for a couple of weeks to allow things to settle down. I will trail Jacob, gather evidence of his promiscuity and deliver it to the lawyer, otherwise they will torment you to a point where you drop your guard.” "Yes, I know," I said. It's perfect. “A few weeks, possibly a month. By that time, we hope to have everything resolved. We cannot let them win and continue pressuring you or something worse, Mia. Don't you realize that you are in danger?” She held my face in her hands. I was silent and was grateful to have her by my side. Without her, I don't know what would become of me. "Yes, yes, I will return with enough weapons to show the world who the Andersons are," I said confidently, and helped her put away a couple of things, and changed into more comfortable clothes. “I'll put on your clothes and go out in the car. The men who trailed us would follow me. While you order a taxi and go to the airport, your flight leaves in three hours,” she said. “Thank you, B, I don't know what I would have done without you. I feel lost. Please take care of yourself. I can’t bear it if anything happens to you...” "Don't worry, I'll be fine," She hugged me tightly. "Call me as soon as you arrive, I'll be glued to my phone." She left the room with the clothes that I was wearing this morning. When she was ready, she left the house in the car belonging to her parents, which had been in the garage for a long time. I noticed through the window how a black truck followed her. A while later the taxi arrived. I ran out and got in, instructing the driver to take me as quickly as possible to the airport, incase they discovered that it was Blair who was in the car and not me. I was a bundle of nerves, all the while I was awaiting at the airport, the hours prior to the flight time seemed interminable. When I heard it was time to board, I took a deep breath and looked around carefully. I didn’t stop until I got on the plane, waiting for it to take off. When we were in the air, my nerves finally calmed down. I looked out of the window to see the city that I was being forced to abandon. Almost nine hours later we landed in Rome. I disembarked with my small suitcase and walked to the exit to find a taxi. “Mia!” I heard my name, and not far away, I saw Blake waving her hands to get my attention. I ran up to her and hugged her. "It's good to see you," I said while we were still embracing ourselves. “I'm happy that you're here, although I'm sorry for the circumstances that brought you. Everything will be fine Mia. I'll call B to let her know that you have arrived.” She took her phone and made a video call. "Thank heavens you arrived safely," B said, touching her chest in obvious relief. “Thank you so much B. Did the men who followed you notice?” I asked, worried. "When I knew that your flight must have taken off, I made sure they saw it was me and not you. I observed them moving around in confusion," she said, laughing. I just shook my head. “Well, go home, I'll keep you up to date with what is happening here, and I'll continue looking for that evidence. I want it. I love you” “I love you too.” Blake and I responded at the same time. We left the airport in Blake's car and drove to a restaurant where she bought some food and started talking about how wonderful the city is and the places she intends to take me to while I'm here. “I want you to forget everything for the time you're here”. She took a bite of a piece of pizza, and we walked to a building that was in front of the restaurant. I sighed. "I'll try," I responded. She touched my shoulder and gave me a sweet smile. After a while, we arrived at Blake's apartment. It was nice and cozy, and she already has a room ready for me. She escorted me to the room, and together we sat on the bed. “The next few days I will be busy in the hospital, so I won't be able to spend much time with you, but next week I will have a few days for you. But if you feel lonely, you can come visit me and get to know the city.” “I'll hold you to your word, I think going out and unburdening my mind will help me a little,” I replied. “Perfect, now rest, and we'll talk later.” As she left the room, I changed into comfortable clothes and laid down on the bed. I was plagued by my thoughts until I finally fell asleep.
