CHAPTER 20

1160 Words
Dave’s question rang in my ear nonstop and I couldn’t help but be worried. What if they would find a piece of evidence for Rachel’s case? What should I do? I tried to massage my temple to calm down but my hands trembled in fear and I was suddenly out of focus. I panicked at the thought of wanting to do it when I was in a parking lot. But then, I was inside the car and the windows were tinted. Slowly, I adjusted my seat to become comfortable and slowly unzipped my pants. I closed my eyes to feel the moment and to be there as fast as I could, but no matter what, I couldn’t achieve my goal and ended up in frustration. What’s wrong with me? Could it be because I wasn’t in my room? As I thought of the possible reason why Nancy passed in front of my car and I was tempted to check where she’s going. I got out of the car immediately and followed her discretely then I saw him. Dave smiled at Nancy like she was the most adorable girl in the world and I began to wonder why he asked me out for a coffee date. On top of that, what was Nancy doing being lovey-dovey with Dave when she already had Keith? I concluded that her kind couldn’t be a club member or she would only ruin the club’s reputation. How could she practice two-timing in a broad daylight? I balled my fist while staring at them from a distance. Nancy kissed Dave on his cheek before waving goodbye. Dave went in a different direction while Nancy walked towards me. I hid carefully at one of the vehicles and waited until she’s far. Suddenly, the car’s door opened and I almost fell into the ground when he pushed the door. “Keith?” I felt my blood became hot and crept into my cheeks as soon as I realized that he saw everything. “How long have you been there?” “Long enough to witness how you balled your fist earlier,” he replied. “Do you have to tell me that?” Keith chuckled and I was more pissed at him. I glared at him for a moment before walking away. “Cassie, wait!” He called. I ignored him. No matter how much he tried, I didn’t dare to listen. However, before I could enter the car, he blocked my way. “Get lost!” “Will you please stop being childish?” Childish? Me? His words infuriated me and I narrowed my eyes at him. “How dare you call me that? Just because I don’t want you near me means that I am childish. Will you please stop being dramatic?” “Are you that liberated, Cassie? You’re a virgin when I took you last night!” “So you think I’m in love? Well, that’s bullshit! Just because you are the first one to touch me means that I’m obligated to like you! Wake up, Keith. The world is fast-changing and someone had to do the dirty part of breaking my hymen,” I explained. “Just move on and forget that something happened, am I clear?” Keith shook his head, probably because he had a hard time understanding my principle or my response, but I shouldn’t be bothered by his old way of thinking. “I hope that you will not regret your words today, Cassie.” I rolled my eyes at him for being overdramatic but then something struck me and I felt the need to ask him for confirmation. “Hold on, are you in love with me?” “I’m not, but I don’t want to be irresponsible.” “Nice,” I said and walked away without looking back. However, instead of going back to the car, I returned to the department store and I had no idea why my feet brought me to the infant wear section. The clothes on the rack looked adorable and I couldn’t help but stare. Slowly, I walked towards the area where cute gloves and booties were displayed. I reached for them and that’s when a store attendant came to assist me. “I’m just looking,” I told her so she would leave and assist a buying customer. “Alright, Miss. Just call me when you need help,” she said before leaving and I just nodded my head. Well, she’s nice and I envied her for having a kind heart. “Why are you here?” My eyes widen when I heard her voice but before she could interrogate me for being at the infant section, I smiled at her and held her hand. “Are you done?” “Not yet, but my feet is tired. The girls are still shopping, well, some of the girls. I can’t reach your high school classmate,” she said. She talked about Nancy and I was torn between telling her what I saw or kept my mouth shut. Regardless of my choice, something was bound to happen; either to me or to Nancy. No one would dare to lie to Adrianna and I wasn’t an exemption even if I’m her only daughter. “I saw her at the parking lot,” I admitted and right away, Adrianna’s expression became sour and she looked at me like I had something to do with it. “With whom?” “She was alone,” I lied. “That woman has a potential, darling. She’s witty and beautiful,” Adrianna complimented Nancy and I could tell that she really liked Nancy to become part of the club. “Did you check her background?” “Of course! Don’t worry because she’s clean. By the way, where are you going?” “I’m on my way to a refreshment parlor, do you need a drink? We can go there right now,” I replied. “As in right now? Why not?” She asked but she didn’t give me a chance to change my course. Adrianna and I walked hand in hand, and as usual, there were men who tried to get our attention. “Thank you, Mom.” “For what, darling?” “For being loyal to me. I mean, you are still young but you chose not to remarry for my sake.” She smiled coyly and said, “Someone proposed to me.” “WHAT?” I was shocked to hear that she wanted to remarry.
