For the first time in my life, I slept in someone else’s house and I hated him for tricking me! He said he would take me home before midnight. He didn’t! He kept me awake the entire night and my eyes felt like there were sands on them when I got home around five in the morning.
My mother was already awake when I got home and I couldn’t decipher her emotions. Her eyes blazed with anger but she’s smiling at the same time. All of a sudden, I was terrified to face her. She scanned my entire appearance, from head to toe, and she grimaced upon noticing the same dress I wore last night for dinner.
“Go upstairs, take a shower and change into something clean,” she ordered.
“Yes, Mom.” I was already on the staircase when she called me. I turned around to check what she wanted from me. “What is it?”
“Did something happen?”
Immediately, I cleared my throat and did my best to sound casual and normal. I also smiled at her. “Nothing, Mom.” I could lie at anyone but not my mom. She always knew what’s going on with me! “You should meet with her mom, she’s a jolly woman.”
“Did you meet Emma?”
“Hmmm yeah but just for a couple of hours, then she went to travel with her husband.”
Adrianna nodded and I was glad that he didn’t notice that I lied. After all, we all knew that Emma Montenegro, along with her husband, loved to travel around the world. “Go and change, then come down for breakfast.”
I nodded my head in agreement and hurried up. I took a deep breath as soon as I got inside my bedroom. She should never know what transpired between me and Keith, or she would just be worried.
Without further ado, I stripped off my satin gown and threw it into the laundry basket. The housekeeper would usually pick up my dirty linens or clothes every morning. When it comes to cleanliness and orderliness in our house, my mother was so strict about it.
The cold water rushing to my body awakened my senses and it was at that moment when I realized the impact of what I’ve done last night. Keith didn’t use anything to prevent unwanted pregnancy and I allowed it more than once. Why did I lose my senses? I should have stopped him from the start!
But no, I didn’t! I let him seduce me into doing it with him! Regret came to me all at once and I shuddered in fear. I had to shake off the unnecessary thoughts before going down to eat my breakfast.
I smiled at the woman who did everything for me and asked, “What time are you leaving for work?”
“It’s my rest day, Cassie.” She replied.
Suddenly, my blood pressure raised and I glanced at her. “So, you will just stay at home today?”
“No. I’m taking the new girls into shopping.”
I had to force myself to swallow the food without chewing them properly. “Shopping? Why don’t you let me help you? I’m not busy today,” I informed her.
“That’s great, darling. We will leave after breakfast,” she announced.
When it comes to rules, my mother has a lot of them, and she ensured that each one of them was implemented. “Yeah Mom,” I replied and focused on eating my meals in the meantime. The food was great as always but I wanted my sandwich. However, I couldn’t have it whenever we have to go shopping. Well, it’s just one of the rules!
Keith said it was stupid to have rules when it’s just the two of them in the house but that’s how we were since my father died. Everything has rules and we could live in peace. Was it really abnormal to have so many rules at home?
After breakfast, I went upstairs to change into something fit for shopping in the mall. No fancy clothes, just a hoodie and a pair of skinny jeans. I chose a sneaker for my footwear and tied my hair into a clean ponytail.
At eight-thirty, I was ready to go, as well as my mother. I noticed the bag she usually carried whenever we would go shopping for the girls. “Maybe you should buy a new bag,” I suggested when I noticed the little c***k on its handle.
Adrianna shook her head in response and said, “No, this is still good.”
“If you say so,” I agreed.
An hour later, we were already at the mall and we walked side by side. Even in her forties, Adrianna Anderson remained a beautiful woman. I noticed how some men glanced at my mother. Well, she could be mistaken as my sister due to her baby face.
She checked her phone from time to time as if she’s waiting for a message or even a call. I just walked silently and scanned the people’s faces around me. When she turned left, I just followed. We took the escalator in going to the next floor and I placed my hands inside my hoodie pocket while standing beside her.
From a distance, I could see the girls waving at my mother, then I saw someone else in a yellow dress. She resembled someone from my past and I snapped my brows together while convincing myself that she couldn’t be her.
“Mom, I need to use the powder room. I’ll be right back,” I said before excusing myself.
“Hurry up, Cassie. You need to meet them,” she reminded me and wink followed.
My flesh shivered at the thought that after several years, I got the chance to see her again. I was behind her when she suddenly turned left and I almost missed her. I hurried up until a man showed up all of a sudden.
Keith?
I thought that he just looked similar but when he adjusted his long-sleeved polo, his tattoo became visible, and I couldn’t be mistaken with the design. It’s definitely him! I retrieved my phone from my pocket at took a selfie…with them in the background.
When he leaned to kiss her, I stopped clicking the camera button and just watched them. I endured the pain and insult from seeing him with another woman when we just made love last night.
Or was it just a one-night stand?
