A sharp breath flew out of her lungs from the pain of hearing Sage's voice. From somewhere deep inside her, she instinctively reached for an icy shield and pulled it up around her. She felt the need to protect herself now because, after everything that she had remembered, she realized nobody would do it for her but herself.
