DAWN was smiling happily as she walked out of the Ashwood Empire. She just applied as a technical staff member. She was lucky to be accepted. She touched the necklace on her neck. She wore one of the necklaces that her grandmother left for her. “Thank you for the luck, Grandma.”
An idea came into Dawn’s mind. I think I should celebrate. With that idea, she went to the nearest café to celebrate. Of course, she’s alone because she has no friends.
But while crossing the pedestrian lane, a car nearly hit her. She was startled that she stepped back. She looked at the stop light, the pedestrian symbol was green, and it was a red light, so it meant that the car should stop and pedestrians crossing the lane.
“Miss, are you alright?” the driver quickly stepped out of his car.
Dawn looked at the man. She narrowed her eyes at him. She wanted to remember his face so he could avoid him in the future. “Are you blind or do you want to violate the traffic rules? Can’t you see that it was a red light?” She scolded the man.
“I’m sorry. I was just in a hurry.”
Though the man was handsome, Dawn wasn’t charmed because of what happened. He nearly hit her. But what caught him was his eyes. They were beautiful blueish-gray eyes.
“Miss, are you alright?” some pedestrian asked Dawn.
That was when Dawn realized they were in the middle of the street. She sighed. “Next time, be careful, Mister,” she said, and quickly left the lane.
While Kylen sighed and went back inside the car, started the engine, and drove the car to the nearest café to buy his favorite black coffee.
ENTERING the café, Dawn immediately went to the counter to order. She ordered two cups of black coffee and some pastries. “Excuse me, can you give the other coffee to the next customer?”
The barista became confused.
Dawn smiled. “It’s a treat for the next customer,” she said. “And some pastries too.”
The barista smiled. “You’re kind, Ma’am.”
Dawn said nothing and waited for her order. After paying the bill and getting her order, she went to sit in the empty seat at the corner of the café. The walls of the café were made of fiberglass so you could see what was happening outside. She looked outside the café while enjoying her black coffee and eating pastries. Her attention was focused outside so that she didn’t notice the man who had entered the café.
Kylen was about to order a black coffee when the barista placed a black coffee in front of him.
“Good afternoon, Sir. You are the next customer after that girl,” the barista pointed to the girl sitting at the corner of the café. “She has already paid for it and the pastries. She said that I would give it to the next customer.”
Kylen immediately looked at the girl that the barista pointed to. He was stunned for a moment. The girl looked glowing because the ray of sunlight was hitting her face. She was so beautiful that even his heart skipped a beat.
What was happening to you? Callum, Kylen’s wolf asked.
Kylen didn’t answer his wolf because he was stunned by the girl.
“Sir.”
Kylen came back to his reverie when he heard the Barista. He looked at her and took the coffee and the pastries. “Thank you.”
The Barista smiled and went back to her work.
As for Kylen, he doesn’t know what’s gotten into her, and he walks towards the girl. The little girl didn’t seem to notice him because she was looking outside the café. Seeing the little girl close, he was stunned to see her. It was the girl that he had nearly hit earlier. But four problems arose.
One, he couldn’t smell the girl’s scent.
Two, Callum was jumping as if he was happy.
Third, Kylen’s heart was beating so fast.
And last, he thinks the girl bears grudges for what happened on the street earlier.
She is not my mate, but why is my heart beating this fast? Kylen asked himself, confused.
Kylen cleared his throat and he got the little girl’s attention.
Dawn looked at the person who cleared his throat. She was slightly dazzled by the handsome man in front of her, but her attention went to the coffee in his hands. A small smile appeared on her lips. “You’re the next customer,” she said. Then her smile disappeared when she realized that this was the man who nearly hit her earlier. She snorted.
Kylen nodded. “Yeah, I am the next customer.” And sat on the chair opposite the girl. “Thank you, and I’m sorry for what happened earlier. I’ll compensate you.”
Dawn shook her head. “No need. Just forget it and be careful next time. You might not get lucky. And I’m not the kind of person who bears grudges, but I won’t forget your face. I may not want to cross paths with you again next time,” she joked with her last words.
Kylen smiled a little. “Thank you for the coffee, by the way.”
“It’s nothing. I’m just happy, so I wanted to celebrate,” said Dawn.
“Oh. Why so?” Kylen asked.
Dawn smiled. “It’s because I was hired today,” she happily said.
Kylen was fascinated by how the little girl smiled. “Congratulations.”
Dawn just smiled and sipped her coffee.
“Do you mind if I sit here for a while?” he asked and sipped his coffee.
“I don’t mind. Just sit comfortably,” Dawn said.
Kylen nodded. What was happening to me? Why do I feel that this girl was familiar with me? He was really confused with himself. This girl in front of him was beautiful and looked kind. He had this feeling that something was pulling him towards her. But he knew that this girl was not his mate. But strangely, he couldn’t smell this little girl’s scent. There were some customers inside the café, and he tried to sniff their scent. He could smell their scent but the little girl in front of him was the only exception. He couldn’t smell her scent. Why is that?
“By the way, I’m Kylen,” he introduced himself.
“Dawn.”
The funny thing is, both of them didn’t extend their hands to shake hands. For Kylen, the only woman he would touch would be his mate. And for Dawn, she doesn’t want to shake hands with people, especially men.
“What company did you apply to?” Kylen asked, just to keep the conversation going.
Dawn munched and swallowed the food in her mouth before she answered, “Ashwood Empire.”
Kylen froze. Did I hear it right?
You heard it, moron! Callum scolded.
Shut up, Callum! Kylen retaliated and blocked Callum in his mind. His wolf was annoying sometimes, and it was good to shut him up.
Dawn nodded. “Yeah, I’m starting tomorrow.”
Kylen stood up. “Congratulations again. I’ll take my leave now. Good luck with your first day of work tomorrow.”
Dawn nodded and smiled. “Bye.” She waved her hand.
Kylen stared at Dawn for a moment before he left. He even looked back at Dawn before he walked outside. And he went to his car. He looked at the café again and saw Dawn. He doesn’t know what got into him that he actually saw Dawn glowing.
Dawn couldn’t get off Kylen’s mind that day until night. Dawn’s beautiful face kept appearing in Alpha Kylen’s mind. Kylen had a sleepless night while Dawn had a good night's sleep. And it’s not fair to Kylen. But for Dawn, she was clueless that someone had a sleepless night because of her.
DAWN got up early the next day and went to work. It so happened that Kylen walked into the lobby. He seldom shows up in public, and he always takes the exclusive elevator, so some of the employees don’t know him, especially those employees in lower positions. But his pack members that belonged to the Crystal Moonlight Pack working under the Ashwood Empire knew him.
“Alpha, why did you enter the entrance?” Colton asked.
Kylen put his hand in his pocket. “I wanted to see someone.”
Colton was confused but didn’t dare to ask anymore.
Kylen automatically smiled when he saw Dawn in the lobby.
“Dawn.”
Dawn immediately turned around when she heard a familiar voice. “It’s you.”
Kylen smiled.
“You work here?” Dawn asked.
Kylen nodded. “Yeah, I work here.” I’m Chairman though. That considered I was working here?
Dawn looked at Kylen from head to toe. Kylen’s coat was obviously customized, and it was made by a top designer. His coat was expensive, Dawn was sure of it. But she ignored it and smiled. “See you. I don’t want to be late.”
“See you.”
Dawn waved her hand and hurriedly went to the elevator.
Kylen laughed softly, which made the Gamma, Colton, look at the Alpha with disbelief.
Did I hear it, right? Alpha laughed?! He was debating in his mind if he really heard Alpha Kylen laugh or if it was just his imagination. Colton shook his head as he was confused about Alpha Kylen’s action towards the girl he had just spoken to.
Kylen walked towards the elevator. He didn’t know, but he felt happy after seeing Dawn.
