CHAPTER 6

“COFFEE.” DAWN HANDED THE COFFEE TO KYLEN. It was a cold day. Dawn was wearing a hoodie jacket while Kylen just wore a plain black shirt, which made Dawn wonder if he didn’t feel cold. But she knew that men’s bodies have a higher temperature than women. Kylen smiled and accepted the coffee. “Thanks.” Dawn nodded. “So, where was that apartment you were talking about?” she asked. They stopped at a coffee shop to eat breakfast. “Easy. After we eat, I’ll take you there,” Kylen answered, eating his croissants. Dawn took a bite of her muffin and looked outside the coffee shop. Kylen stared at Dawn. Until he was still confused. It'd been a few days since he met Dawn, and he really liked the sight of her. He wanted to see her every day. This feeling… isn’t what I should feel for my mate. But why do I feel this about someone who wasn’t my mate? Being in a dilemma isn’t good for him. What should he do? It’s just a few days, and he thinks he’s already attracted to this little girl in front of him. After having their coffee, Kylen took Dawn to the apartment he found near the Ashwood Empire. “See? It’s near our workplace,” said Kylen. “Are you sure the rent here was cheap?” Dawn asked. “Brother, this place looks expensive. Look at the interior design, the furniture, and the walls… it was expensively designed.” Kylen asked. I can’t really fool this one. “I live here,” he said. It was true though, but the rent, he was indeed lying. The rent was expensive, but he paid half for Dawn. And as for the reason why he did this? He was asking himself too. Dawn was surprised. “Really?” Kylen nodded. “Yeah. Come with me. I’ll show you.” Dawn quickly followed Kylen. They went to the second floor of the apartment building, then Kylen opened a door. “Come on in.” Dawn entered Kylen’s apartment. The room was a typical room for a guy. A small living room, a small kitchen, a bathroom, and a room. The room was not wide but not small either. But it is good for two people. “So, how much is the rent?” she asked. Kylen smiled. “Affordable.” Dawn nodded. “Okay. I believed you. So, where is the room for me?” “Come with me,” Kylen said, and called someone on his phone. Then later, after stepping out of Kylen’s unit, an elderly woman approached them with a broad smile on her face. “Your girlfriend?” the woman asked with a smile on her lips as she looked at Kylen. Dawn frowned at the woman. “Excuse me.” The woman looked at Dawn. “Hi, I’m Elen. I’m the landlady of this apartment.” “I’m Dawn and if you mistake me as his girlfriend, I’m not.” Dawn introduced myself. “Oh, you two look great together,” Elen said. Dawn and Kylen looked at each other. For some reason, they both felt embarrassed. Elen chuckled. “Okay. Come with me. I’ll show you some rooms,” she said to Dawn. Dawn nodded and followed Elen. Kylen followed suit. There are vacant rooms on the second floor of the building. But Dawn chooses the room opposite to Kylen. “Dawn, this apartment was close to the university. It is convenient for you,” said Elen. Dawn smiled. They mistook my age again. “I’m not a student.” “But you looked like a teenager. Dawn, don’t fool me,” Elen was confident, but she lost her smile when she heard Dawn’s words. “Miss Elen, I’m already twenty-one.” Dawn showed her identification card. Elen couldn't believe it so she took Dawn's ID and looked at it. “I just looked like a teenager but, in fact, I am already twenty-one years old.” Dawn smiled innocently while playing with her fingers entwined behind her. It was not her fault that she looked like a teenager. Elen smiled in surprise. “You really are. I even thought that you two were father and daughter.” “We…” Kylen pointed to himself and couldn’t believe what Elen had said. Dawn got confused. Then why did you say that we look great together? She’s not turning back against her own word, right? “Forget what I have said,” Elen looked at Dawn. “When will you move in?” she asked Dawn after receiving the two-month advance rent payment. She even looked at Kylen because Kylen paid half of the rent. Playing mysteriously. Elen shook her head. “Ahmm… tomorrow,” Dawn answered. Elen nodded. “Okay. Then I’ll give you the key and the key card.” She handed Dawn the key and key card. “Enjoy your stay.” “Thank you.” Elen smiled and left. But before she left, she looked at Kylen. Good luck, Alpha. Kylen ignored Elen and shook his head. He looked at Dawn. “I’ll help you to move.” Dawn politely refuses. “No need. I can manage,” she said. And one more thing, she might have bothered Kylen. It was already kind of him to find her a safe and cheap apartment. “Come on, Dawn. We’re friends. Friends should help each other.” “Ah?” Dawn was surprised. “We’re friends?” she asked. She didn’t know that they were friends. Kylen frowned. “You didn’t treat me as your friend?” He scoffed. “Dawn, that’s so bad of you. Since we met, I have already treated you as my friend. How can you think that we’re not friends?” He complained and narrowed his eyes at Dawn. Dawn scratched the back of her neck. “I’m sorry. It’s just that…” we’re not at the same age as to call each other friends. You are more like a brother to me. She looked at Kylen and smiled awkwardly. She didn’t know what to say. “Friends then.” Kylen smiled. But when Dawn turned her back, he lost his smile. Why do I feel pissed hearing that we’re only friends? You said it, moron! Shut up, Callum! Kylen blocked his annoying wolf in his mind. He looked at Dawn, who was now walking away. Who really are you? Why do I feel attracted to you? If you’re my mate, why can't I sense it? Sighing, Kylen followed Dawn. “Dawn.” He called her when they reached outside the building. Dawn faced him, and he was stunned for a moment. He couldn’t move because of what he saw. “Your eyes…” Dawn touched the side of her eyes. “My eyes? Why?” she asked. Kylen blinked. “Nothing,” he shook his head. Am I hallucinating earlier? He looked at Dawn’s eyes again. Dawn’s eyes were normal. So, he thought he was just hallucinating. But he clearly saw that Dawn’s eyes glowed. Maybe I was just hallucinating. He convinced himself. “What’s the matter?” Dawn asked when Kylen was staring at her. Kylen shook his head. “Nothing. Let’s go. I’ll take you back to your apartment.” He turned his back to Dawn, but he remembered something, so he faced her again. “And I’ll help you move tomorrow.” Dawn nodded. This guy was really nice. But I still need to be vigilant. After all, he’s a man. Men are full of lies and deception. Later that day, after Kylen sent Dawn back to her apartment, he went back to his apartment. Colton was waiting for him and there seemed to be a problem. “What’s the matter?” Kylen asked. “Alpha, I received a report from Beta Sebastian. Some Rogues are lurking in the city. Human remains were found in an abandoned lot. Thomas was there and investigating. He suspected that it was done by Rogues.” The city was not a part of Crystal Moonlight Pack territory. The werewolves didn’t dare to own the city because it belonged to the humans. “Bring me to that place,” Kylen said calmly. Colton bowed his head. “Yes, Alpha.” Kylen went to the abandoned lot where the remains were found. “Alpha.” The pack warriors bowed their heads and greeted him. Kylen looked at the white cloth that covered the remains. “No humans dared to go in this place because it was isolated and they believed that ghosts were lurking in this place. Our pack warriors just followed the trails of the pack that attacked us, Alpha, but we found this human remains instead,” Thomas informed. “Let me see the it.” Thomas removed the white cloth covering the human remains. Kylen closed his eyes after seeing the human remains. The bodies had already started to rot and it smelled, and so, these bodies were dumped here for many days before it was found. The bodies were rotting, and some of their body parts were missing. The wounds showed that they were bitten by something. “Are you sure it was done by Rogues?” Kylen asked. Thomas nodded. “Yes, Alpha. But it may not seem so.” Kylen sighed. He understood what Thomas wanted to say. These humans can either be killed by Rogues or it was intentionally killed by some werewolves who belonged to a pack. Some packs were enemies they couldn’t get along. But even so, some packs formed an alliance. “Alpha, what should we do?” Colton asked. Kylen gestured to cover the human remains. “What can we do? Let the authorities handle this and let them find the families of these victims. But investigate this secretly. I want to know who did this.” “Yes, Alpha.” When the night came, he patrolled secretly. He stands on the rooftop of the Ashwood Empire building, the tallest building in the city, and looks at the surroundings. From where he stood, he could hear the people talking, their laughs, the music from the club, the honk and screeching of the tires of vehicles, and the sound of the blowing night breeze. He could hear everything. Kylen looked at the bright moon, the full moon had passed and the moon was going back to a new quarter. And when the new quarter came, a danger arose. Rogues and those evildoers will create chaos. Suddenly, Kylen heard growls. “Rogues,” he muttered and jumped off the building. He landed perfectly on his feet and ran towards the direction where the Rogues were. Alpha Kylen became busy the whole night.
