There were twenty of us in total embarking on this journey.
It felt a little cramped, I won’t deny that—especially once we started moving together as a single unit—but having more people around oddly comforted me. It was a safety net, a reminder that if anything went wrong, we weren’t alone. The more eyes, the more hands, the better our chances.
I kept telling myself that nothing would happen, not as long as we stuck to the mapped-out routes and stayed vigilant. The Mirevale Woods had a reputation, and not a good one. But if we were careful—if we respected the land and moved with caution—we could get through it safely.
At least, that was the hope.
The moment we crossed into the borders of the woods, it was as if we stepped into another world entirely.
