Chapter 13: The Angels

653 Words
Just then popped into my mind the content of the flying paper back in the room. It nearly slipped out my head. Perhaps, my uneasiness has something to do with that warning.   ***   Bella starched the crumpled paper and a short message was imprinted on it. My eyes literally widens on what it has to say.   “Worry not, brave kitten. The Hawkins don’t bite. You just need to be careful with the Angels,” Bella read aloud the passage. This is a rhetoric.   I narrowed my eyes to think. Hawkins… Hawkins was the name of the basketball team. As in Black Hawkins. So this means, the basketball team was harmless despite having me divulge their lies, but still, there was this ‘Angels’ I have to be wary about. They are hostile to me.   Then, who are those angels Kent guy was talking about.   ***   I was taken aback my senses upon the arrival of more current club members. The panel of judgment for the try out might be among them as well, that’s why I paid attention on their faces.   Guess what they were all indeed beauties as my research told me so. There are faces that I can’t recognize from the listing but there are some that leaves me a familiar impression.   I wouldn’t be wrong. The girl who took the center seat prepared in front was non other than the same blonde girl were tasked to do the listing the other day.   Ayesha Curts…   My ears literally flinched when a familiar word resonate from her mouth. “Welcome aspirants to the famed home of beauties and talents, the Charlie’s Angel Cheering Club!” she formally started, garnering everyone’s attention into her.   “The team captain, Shamcey Prescott won’t be with us for the mean time due to personal reason. And for that matter, I will stepping up on her behalf instead. I will overlook the try outs,” she announced using her high pitched voice.   Jeez! It’s actually not that pleasant to the ear, but we have to live up with that.   Wait-- what?!   Did she just say Charlie’s Angel Cheering Club? So that might be the one the flying paper was referring to. How ironic to think that I am walking straight into that danger zone now, am I?   “I won’t hesitate to kick those that fall out of my taste,” Ayesha strongly emphasized.   And what more? She bluntly threw me a death glare.   Alright. Now that I get the pieces together. Ayesha Curts was the girlfriend of Giavanni Hunters, the one that I sent to the guidance counselor’s office. She was also the same blonde on he was hooking up with on the stairs. Perhaps, she also pulled out the same lie as an excuse as her lover did in their professor.   And now, she would be do the revenge part on me. How ridiculous? How can they not accept their our fault. It was his boyfriend that brought up the problem on himself. I was merely being the agent who served justice and integrity.   Pushing any remnants of cowardliness within me, I met her burning gaze. I have gone this far. I cannot undo what I’ve started already, which I highly doubt I will even if given a second chance. Lies are lies. No excuses. And lies were out not to be tolerated. That’s the basic founding principle of ethics in the first place.   Ugh! Gosh! This part of me of being ‘stick to the rules’ remained intact in my gut despite my attempt for changing my personality. It only gone out more vocal than now. And it transcended not only myself following the rules, but also pushing others to do the same.
