CHAPTER 3: Intruder

Filonia woke up in the middle of the night when she heard a lot of footsteps coming back and forth in front of her room. She immediately pulled herself out of bed and wore her usual attire. It's a black sleeveless with a black leather jacket on top of it. She also wore her usual black plaid skirt and white leather boots.

When she was ready, she heard someone knock on her door. It was her brother, Ellias.

"Brother, what's the matter?" She asked as she went out to her room.

"Oh, good thing I don't have to wake you up," he said, and started to walk, and Filonia followed. "Grandfather is in distress right now. I don't know the specific reason, but I guess it has to do with the vengeful spirits," he added.

Filonia's hand formed a fist as she heard her brother's talk. They're already strong enough and yet these vengeful spirits still dare to make their grandfather stressed.

"What do we need to do? Is Uncle with Grandfather right now?"

Ellias nodded his head and said, "Yes, Uncle is with Grandfather right now." Sighing. "As for what we need to do, that will be discussed once we're in his office."

Filonia didn't talk and just followed her brother. When they reached their grandfather's office and when they went inside, they felt that something was wrong. They can feel the stress and at the same time the urgency of this matter.

Both of them called him "Grandfather."

Alfonso, their grandfather and the patriarch of the family, looked at his grandchildren with a haggard and stressful gaze.

"Grandfather, are you okay?" Filonia asked worriedly.

Alfonso sighed and said, "I will be honest, no I am not okay." Both Filonia and Ellias sat down and listened to their grandfather. "Do you know about Circle 4, Zone 5?" he asked.

Both of them nod, but only Ellias answers the question, "Yes, it is the safest place in Iralia, and as far as I know, our ancestors put their effort into purifying the place, and not a single vengeful spirit has been able to see or enter the area."

"Grandfather, is there something wrong with C4, Z5?" Filonia asked.

"Yes," both Filonia and Ellias gasped.

"Oh my god, how?" Filonia mumbled and couldn't believe it.

"We still don't know how it happened," their uncle said, looking at his niece and nephew. "That is the reason your grandfather called you here," he added.

"Perhaps, do you want us to look into this matter, Grandfather?" Ellias asked, and Alfonso nodded his head.

Alfonso is hesitant to put his grandchildren's lives in jeopardy because they are his only grandchildren. Maximo, his son, couldn't find another woman because he loved his deceased wife dearly.

He knows that when he dies, his son will take over the family's patriarch position and when he also can't serve the family, that is the time for Ellias to do his job. It was supposed to be Maxime's job. He is Maximo's son and the eldest of his grandchildren, but due to the unfortunate event that befallen their family, he died with his mother, Luna, Maximo's wife.

"We want you to look at the place. If it's dangerous enough and you need reinforcements, don't hesitate to come back here." Alfonso put down the paper he was holding and continued, "Remember, your safety must be a guarantee," Alfonso warned both of them.

"Don't worry, Grandfather, I will protect Filo."

"No, we also want you to protect yourself. Not just Filo, but also yourself." Maximo intervenes.

"Your uncle is right. Please come back here safe and sound. We don't want to send the both of you there, but there is no one perfect for this job but only the two of you," Alfonso said, with a sincere worry on his face.

Filonia felt like she had to do something, so she smiled and said, "Don't worry, Grandfather and Uncle. We'll be back. We can't leave two old geezers in this world after all, right, brother?" She teased.

Ellias laughed as Filonia lightened the mood in the office. "Of course, they're too handily, but I guess they still need us," he added.

"Both of you..." Alfonso rebutted but couldn't continue to scold the two and just laughed, "Are we that old?"

"Um," Filonia said, slowly nodding her head.

Maximo just shrugged his head and let the two of them go on their mission. Before the two left the office, he said, "Do your best on this mission, Filo."

"Huh? Why?" Filo asked curiously.

"This is going to be your last mission, Filo. Right? You're going to move from here to another country to study."

Filonia felt a little pain in her heart as she heard her uncle say those words. She forcefully smiled and nodded her head. "I'll do my best."

When the two youngsters left the room, Maximo and Alfonso both sighed.

"Is that really okay?"

"Don't worry, father, they're strong enough to handle this. Also, this is one of the best experiences that we can give to Ellias."

"How about Filo?"

"What can we do to that girl? She wouldn't let her brother go to a dangerous place like that if she knew, right?" Maximo said with a little smile on his face.

Alfonso also smiled a little and said, "Yeah, she inherits her mother's attitude after all."

"You mean the recklessness and the constant worry about other people," Maximo said.

Alfonso just sighed and nodded his head.

When Filonia and Ellias went out of their grandfather's office, they immediately went to the darkest part of their mansion.

"Don't make me worry, okay?" Ellias said, with a sincere voice.

Filonia coughed, "I should be the one to tell you that," he rebutted.

Ellias laughed a little, "Whatever, just be careful and I will be careful too."

"That's good. It's a deal then."

"Yeah,"

As they walked into the deepest part of the darkness, they immediately disappeared. As a member of the Avenir family that leads every spirit conqueror into victory, they could make the darkness their own portal from one place to another.

When they arrived at circle 4, zone 5 headquarters, both of them felt that there was something wrong. Especially when they saw who greeted them.

"Good evening, Young Master and Young Miss, I am Second Lieutenant Commander Macus, and I am here to bring you to your resting place," he said.

Filonia and Ellias looked at each other and seemed to be communicating with each other, but since Filonia still can't use their telepathy ability, it was Ellias that told her what they needed to do.

"Why is it you who greeted us? Where is the General?"

"He has an important matter that he needs to attend to, Young Miss." He answered politely.

"And the Lieutenant herself?" Ellias asked.

"She is with the General," he answered politely once more.

This time, Filonia is already convinced that something bad happened to the General and the Lieutenant since they were the ones who followed the rules strictly.

"How about the other rankers above you? The Field Martial, Officer Cadete, Commodore, and the others?" Filonia once again asked.

'If you're going to lie, please read our rules first before greeting us. Rest in Peace to your soul, Filonia. My sister hates it when someone tries to deceive her.' In his mind, Ellias said.

Filonia indeed hates it when someone tries to deceive her because that is one of the reasons why they lost a lot of their family members. She hates it when someone is lying in front of her, even if she knows the truth behind it.

"For some reason, everyone above me, aside from the General and the Lieutenant was sick. They're currently resting in their own cabin," he said with a worried tone of voice.

Ah, you're trying to deceive me. Then it's not my fault for not giving you the mercy that you want later on. You choose this game; it's going to be your end game.

Filonia just quietly smiled and nodded her head, "Okay, lead the way."

"Oh, I want to be in the same room as my sister,"

"Huh? Bro, are you kidding me?" Filonia asked as she raised her eyebrows.

She knows what her brother's plan is, but she will pretend that she didn't know it. She will act like before. She is a quiet girl yet a hot-tempered one when it comes to her family.

"Well, it's Grandfather's arrangement, not mine. If you're going to say no, then tell that to our grandfather's face," Ellias said, as she gave her a smug look.

They let Macus see their fight for a while because this was part of their plan. They will let him see that they're not on good terms and that only Ellias is trying to get close to each other. From this point, Macus will gradually make his move towards Filonia.

"Fine!" Filonia said, as she looked like she was forced to do so.

Macus acts as if this is not new to him, but inside him, this is the best information he can have. He will eventually approach the girl and brainwash her to go against her brother. This bond can easily be broken. So, he thought.

Little did he know that the siblings had already seen everything in his plan. They decide to go with the flow first to understand what happened and what they wanted to do.

As for what Ellias said, Macus brought them into their cabin with two beds. They also asked Macus to bring them what they needed. And since this person is only pretending to be one of their soldiers, then it's not prohibited to give him different kinds of chores.

The siblings stayed in the headquarters, pretending to investigate while trying to execute their real plan. Filonia, as she was immune to any brain waves that would cause someone to go against their will, is the one who will do most of the job. Ellias was against it, but he couldn't do anything about it.

"Hey, Second Lieutenant Macus," Filonia called.

Macus stopped and looked at Filonia. He looked around and didn't see Ellias, so he took this opportunity, which was already being seen by Filonia.

Does he really think he's almighty? He's just tier 3. What can a tier 3 go against a tier 8?

Spirit conquerors have a level or tier; tier 1 is the weakest, and tier 10 is the strongest. The S1 to S5 are above this, followed by Haven 1 to Haven 4.

Filonia was already in tier 8 and Ellias was already in tier 10. Maximo- their uncle was in the S2 and their grandfather was already in Haven 3.

"Young Miss, what's the matter?"

Filonia shrugged her shoulders, "I fought with my brother again,"

Even though Macus tried to hide his smile, it was still seen by Filonia. "Are you two not close?"

Filonia sighed and started to walk, "Sometimes yes, sometimes no. He's annoying, so mostly I hated him."

A smile on Macus's face grew bigger, "Do you hate him?" He started to use his wave to mess with Filonia's mind.

Filonia feels the wave, yet she ignores it and tries to act as if she has already been hit by the wave. "I do, I do really hate him."

Demons have this kind of ability to control someone's mind. This is one of the primary reasons why they can make people go under their command. Also, they can dominate the spirits of either vengeful or unfinished ones. The people around this didn't notice it, but the direct descendants of the Avenir family could.

The Avenir family has a way of getting information from a demon, but the demon has no way of getting any information from the Avenir family. It's given since a demon can only possess a person's body but they can't get the person's abilities, memories, or attitude.

Thou a descendant of my enemy. Hear me and be mine. Hear me and be under me.

Filonia was chilled after she heard that kind of spell, but she didn't let it uncover her act. She acted as if she was already under his command. As a member of the Avenir family, she already knew this kind of trick and they already had too many things that they could do with this trick.

"Ho, so you're a weak one," Macus stated as she looked at Filonia.

Filonia is having a hard time trying to concentrate on her act because Macus is too close to her face. This is one of the things she hated the most but she can't do anything right now. Her brother, Ellias, is trying to find the people who put this man, Macus, imprison somewhere in the headquarters.

"I kind of like you," Macus said again, sniffing Filonia's neck. "You'll be warming my bed later," he added.

Filonia nearly flinched as Macus kissed her hair.

'You bastard! If I have a chance this time, I won't let you go! After my brother makes his move, I'm going to take your head away from your body! You're a bloody hell!'

Filonia screamed inside her head, but she was trying not to let her emotions be seen. As dumb as a demon, Macus assesses Filonia's desire but is unable to see her inner emotions. As a demon, this is one of the most crucial parts of taking someone under their control.

As the demon is taking someone under their control, they can feel the person's inner emotions. Macus was too confident with his work, which led him to his demise.

When Macus tried to touch Filonia, he immediately looked at the ceiling. Above them is where he put those bodies, the comrades of the owner of the body he possesses now.

"Damn it!" He angrily said and glared at the emotionless face of Filonia. "Since you hate your brother, I will let you kill him. I also hated him for meddling with my work," he said.

He failed to see the small smile on Filonia's face and walked hurriedly, but Filonia didn't immediately follow. So, Macus looked back.

"What the hell are you standing there for? Hurry and follow me, b***h!"

Filonia unhurriedly walked towards Macus and followed him to the floor above them. As they walked, Macus never looked back at Filonia, the reason why she got an opportunity to assess the person in front of him.

They stopped at the front of the core office door. When Macus immediately used his fingerprint to ender, he was denied the reason why he swore multiple times. But then, he stopped swearing and looked at the emotionless acting of Filonia.

"b***h, go and use your fingerprint." He commanded.

Acting under his command, Filonia walked slowly towards the door and Macus stepped backward five times. When Filonia feels it, she immediately sends a signal to her brother.

This is their plan. Filonia will pretend that they have been into some fight, and she will state in front of Macus that she hated her brother, and then this will give Macus a hint that they weren't on good terms. As a dumb demon, Macus immediately uses this opportunity to make Filonia under his command.

Everything is running according to their plan. This is what Filonia thought.

When access was granted, Macus immediately went to Filonia and shoved her away from the door.
