LARKIN’S POV "Don't go after her, Larkin," Lucas restrained me as I moved to follow Emily. It felt like a heavy stone was crushing my chest when Emily called me a monster, but I understood her reaction. Her interest in mythical and fantastical creatures was something she had previously mentioned to me, but that didn't guarantee that she would be overjoyed to learn who I really was. But I was confident that it was just her initial reaction and that she would give me the chance to explain once she had calmed down. I believed that love would prevail in her heart. Despite being bloodied and weakened, Lucas struggled to stand. He approached me and, without warning, grabbed my collar and slammed me against the wall. He didn't let me go. His face was serious as he stared directly into my eyes.
