Waking up to the small cold space was just another constant in my life. I've been cold and alone since the minute my mother died giving birth to me. My father hired a nanny to take care of me and even she was horrid, with her beatings a skipped meals. By the time I was ten years old my father considered me grown enough but, for what I wasn’t sure, that is, until he came to me one evening, he had a terrifying smirk set upon his thin lips. “Lie down my little September, daddy has something to give you,” he said softly, teasingly. I remember feeling scared and paralyzed, I was shocked at how he was looking at me, how his icy, bony hands felt touching me and how his-. ‘ Shaking the nightmares from my head I hurry to get dressed for the day. Choosing jeans and a simple black hoodie with holes in the sleeves for my nervous thumbs to slip through and pastel pink flats. I grab my rucksack for a backpack and creep out the door quietly as to not disturb my grandparents. Stepping off the last flight of stair I breathe a sigh of relief having not run into anyone. “September!” I jump at the loud screeching tone of my grandmother “yes?” I answer softly turning around to face her. “We will be having an important guest tonight so you will come here straight after school! I want you in an appropriate dress as the meeting will be formal so, none of your jackets and torn jeans do hear me?! He is highly respected in the business world and will not be an embarrassment!” she says snottily before turning to a maid passing by to discuss dinner plans. I just kinda stand there awkwardly while waiting to be dismissed. “What are you doing you, petulant child? Get your arse to school!” Without answering I turn on my heal and dash out the door. My grandparents have been inviting rich men to dinner every couple of months to find me a potential suitor, all of which were horrible in there own ways. Of course, they are never told I’m a male, my grandmother only wants status and riches I can only imagine the man that will be there tonight. ~~~~~~~~ Walking into school is just another chore in my boring pathetic life I only have one friend in this horrible place but Cayden makes it a little better, she is beautiful with midnight black hair and brown almond shaped eyes. She is my polar opposite with her sweet and fiery personality all rolled into one little 4’9” body. She also doesn't know my real gender. I have pretended to be this person for so long that I have started to believe it, so it comes naturally to be considered a girl. “Ember!” speak of the devil. “Cayden” I greet softly “Did you hear about the new English teacher?” she talks about the rumor as we walk to math class. I don’t really pay attention, she tends to ramble so I nod occasionally. I don't talk a lot since I have social anxiety but, Cayden understands when I don’t talk. My day goes by in slow motion as I go to each class, I don't have much of a personality as I only do what my grandparents allow.
