All she could do was watch the door slam shut behind him. That resentment was her fault. She deserved it after all. “He will come around. He may be against it right now, but he is your mate even if he is fighting it right now.”
Was that even possible anymore? The way he was acting he wanted nothing to do with her. Her visions before had shown them barely together any longer. Was there truly a chance? Should she look to see if it was possible?
Seeing him with his dirty blond and that scruff covering his face to his emerald eyes her heart skipped a beat. Those eyes always sucked her in. She had to keep it together when it came to him even if it felt impossible. She had wanted to touch him so badly, but had known best not to with the anger he emanated. Though it was difficult. In these days clothes he looked even more handsome. The jeans hugged perfectly to him along with the long sleeve black shirt he wore that accented his chest perfectly. She knew his bad boy look was to die for but seeing it with her own eyes was beyond words.
He awoke a need in her she hadn’t felt in so long that maybe just watching wouldn’t be possible. Maybe it was time to look again to see if they might have a future together.
“Evie, don’t even think about it. I can tell you are thinking of losing yourself in your visions again, but not yet. You need rest. You only got about thirty minutes’ worth. You need to drink and then rest, okay? Or Julius will kill me when he sees you have not slept. I couldn’t imagine bringing you to him lost to your visions again. The plane ride was enough for both Julius and I. Even if as you put it, that had been much lesser time than others, it was worrisome. I’m not taking that chance again.”
Those words stopped her from trying. She would have to revisit this later.
“I’ll do as you say. It is the logical route to take. I don’t want to see Julius mad at you. Erik being upset with you is far too much as it is.”
“My life thanks you Evie.” That dazzling smile of his was infectious and made her lips curl up. “Now take this and go to bed. You have a big day tomorrow. We have to go get you some clothes to the office and then we have to see Julius afterwards.”
Saluting him, she took the cup of blood he had made up for her, and walked back towards the kitchen while she drained the contents. He was right. Now wasn’t the best time to be looking for answers. There will be time later. Blood and rest are what she desperately needed right now, even though there were questions haunting her. She had to get stronger and that meant taking care of herself. She was finally gaining weight she had lost thanks to Elizabeth. Very nearly back to the way she was when her life had been the happiest.
Rinsing the cup, she placed it in his dishwasher to clean fully before heading to her room. Thomas and Julius had made sure to get her the best items possible. Her bed was better than any she had slept on before. Having woken up from it she had debated even leaving the confines of it, but having sensed Erik nearby she ventured out of the covers. Once she had caught his scent she couldn’t stop the pull to see him even though she knew it would hurt.
The covers were soft as silk and yet were blush and warm. Nothing like she had ever been lucky enough to have before. The closet was still bare, but Julius had informed her that she would be able to buy ones she liked tomorrow. That way she would have items of her tastes. Plus, she figured he wanted to give her experience shopping in the world today. She had little practice of doing anything normal and it was exciting for her to be able to see it all with her actual eyes instead of through visions.
Flopping herself onto the bed she scooted to the middle of it to climb under the covers. Burying herself in the baby blue comforter she laid her head on the goose feather pillow. Tomorrow she would see Erik again and wondered if Julius or Thomas had informed him. If not, he was going to be furious with them all again. Maybe she should tell Thomas in the morning. She would rather give Erik an opportunity to avoid her if possible.
While she thought about the best course of action she began drifting off. This was the first time in centuries that she felt safe. Even through the night she had a blissful dreamless night. This never really happened in her life that she could remember.
Sleep lasted only so long before she felt the pull of visions plague her mind. This was becoming harder to ward off these days as the visions never gave her any real rest. Unable to stop the images from afflicting her mind, she tried to allow them to shift through, hoping to get past them if possible.
The visions were all different and seemed unrelated as they shuffled around. Trying to gain some semblance of control she tried to back herself out of them. Otherwise, she wouldn’t know how long she may be captured in them again.
Focus on Erik. He was the one person who could quiet her mind. Even if he wasn’t here next to her or even in the same house, she was still closer than she had been in centuries.
Calming herself she tried to meditate and think of pulling back.
Breathing in and out she just pictured Erik’s face, and kept concentrating on that.
Slowly she felt herself being pulled back to reality and opened her eyes to immediately sit up. Taking an immediate deep breath she felt relieved. Thankfully that tactic had worked, but would it continue to help her make it out of those endless visions at times?
That would need to be tested. She needed to get a handle on them more and felt it was possible to try to get them tamed. She would try when the next assault of visions occurred.
Knowing she wouldn’t be able to get further rest, she pulled the blankets off her to spin her body to the side. Bounding off the bed she headed towards the door needing to get a bag of blood from the refrigerator. Thank goodness today’s use of blood banks. Getting blood was way more efficient and simpler to partake in.
Still in the grey shirt and spandex shorts, she headed towards the kitchen. Shockingly, Thomas was sitting at the island, drinking a cup of what smelled like normal coffee while looking at his cell phone.
“Good morning sunshine. Did you sleep well?” His chocolate eyes met hers and she gave a slight nod while she walked to grab a cup and then blood bag. “Once you’re ready we will head to the office then we can head to some stores to get you everything you’ll need.
“Sounds perfect.” Pouring the contents of the blood bag into the cup she decided to just drink it how it was. To her it didn’t matter wholeheartedly if the blood was warm or cold. At least it was better than the agonizing pain of none.
When the cup was empty did she realize just how hungry she actually was. She thought she had drank enough yesterday, but maybe not. Maybe she was still healing from her time with Elizabeth. Taking one more bag of blood she decided that might be best to just be safe than sorry.
Once those contents where finished she cleaned her glass and set it in the strainer next to the sink. “I think we should inform Erik that I will be working at your office. I don’t think he would appreciate walking into his own office finding me there.”
She had contemplated this and didn’t want to make Erik’s life more miserable. He might be quite upset knowing he couldn’t seem to escape her at places he had hoped to.
Glancing over to Thomas he just continued to play on his phone. “No can do. It’s best if we just let him find out and get pissed then. Otherwise, he’ll only avoid the office and I need hm there today to get caught up on everything. Plus, he just needs to get used to it. Now, why don’t you take a shower and get changed into some new clothes I left in the bathroom. Lucian had some sent over knowing we were going into the office today. He wanted to make sure you had a perfect set for your first meet with everyone.”
“If you say so. I shall get ready then. It shouldn’t take long at all.”
