Slowly they collected themselves and headed to the kitchen where Ya-Ya had set the table and was bringing out the last of the food. In addition to fried chicken and mashed potatoes there was also coleslaw, peas and gravy. Taking their seats Ya-Ya held out her hands signaling for them to do the same so that they were all joined. She looked at Jamie with a nod.
“We honor the powers that be for the rain and the sun that make everything grow, for the moon and the stars that write our stories in the sky. Thank you for your love unending…and thank you for helping me meet my daddy and giving me a little brother. Amen.”
“Amen,” they echoed.
As they settled into their meal Nicolas said, “Little brother? You know it could be a little sister.”
“No. Ya-Ya said so.”
