The Queen, the Duke, and I, entered the hall in our royalty uniforms with the red band in our shoulders going down diagonally on our bodies with both ends meeting below our waistlines. Every time, we wore the uniform, it was indicative of the significance of the occasion. General meeting or call to order issued by the Queen did not merit such formality but at this moment, whether the audience had noticed it or not, there had been no reaction..
The Queen stepped inside the room assisted by the Duke, which never happened before. The throne comes first–that was the protocol, therefore the consort should walk behind her. The big-belied and grey-haired dignitaries were so particular about that protocol…but right now, the Queen and the Duke came together, side by side.
