It was midday before I even woke. Alexei left me broth on the stove and a note telling me to lock up when I left. I quickly ate, deciding I would take a hot bath when I got back to Evangeline and Warren's house. Wouldn't want to risk running into Alice if Alexei happened to bring her back.
My walk back to their house was longer than I expected. Or perhaps it was all the aches that made it feel worse than it was. I passed a few warriors on the way who didn't give me a second glance. It got me thinking that now might be a good time to search for that tunnel system, but every breath felt like I was breathing in glass. I had to stop twice just to let the feeling pass.
