Sliding through the bodies she made her way to the edge of the bar where she noticed Dax talking to a small little minx of an elf. The blush on her cheeks was a key to her seeing her friend putting on some charms with a lady. Knowing Dax, he would have someone in his bed tonight without any problem. He always was a charmer and a looker at that.
From his short-spiked dirty blond hair with fade, his forest green eyes to his strong jawline, he was a heart throb to say the least. Pair all of that with just a pair of low hung jeans and a white shirt that show cased his muscles he was drool worthy. It was hard to believe at times that Dax and Jax were brothers. The only thing similar was their large frame.
He must have felt a pair of eyes on him because in a second his eyes shifted to hers and surprise shined within his eyes. She could see his bear underneath, recognizing her in a heartbeat before Dax realized who he was staring at. Just a small I’ll be back in a bit Love came out of his mouth before he headed straight for her.
“If my eyes don’t deceive me is that you little cub?” Dax and Jax loved to call her that. Ever since she met them when she was a child, they decided on that nickname together.
A nod was all she could get out as he pulled her into a bear hug himself. “Wow. Two big hugs in one night. I think I’m a lucky girl.” With the stares she was receiving and the death glares from others she could imagine how many women wanted the right to be hugged by this man and much more.
“It’s been too long Rory. You’re no longer the little girl that saved us.” He finally released her so that he could get a good look at the woman she had become. “Yup, no longer that little girl. Men will be flocking to have you and they best beware that you are under my protection while here.” The words rang with enough emphasis for those around to know if anyone touched her to mean harm, they would regret it.
“I can protect myself now and if I do recall I saved both your brother and you long ago at just the age of seven.” The smile playing on her lips as she recalled the memory had him chuckling.
“That you did. You were a strong hunter, and still are. Magic was always easy for you. However, you’re still human yet. I’m shocked your family has let you out of their barracks of the mountains before then.”
“I’m pretty persistent.”
All he could do was chuckle, shaking his head at her. “That you are.” Then he chucked her chin and smiled down to her. “I missed you little cub.”
She had missed him greatly too.
“Me too, but you have to work so I will let you go and look around. This is the first club I’ve ever been in so I want to see what you got yourself here. Plus, I’m meeting Seth here so should probably try and find him.” The place truly was everything she had seen in pictures and read about, but yet so different. It was a whole different thing to experience it.
“Sounds good. If you need to rest let me know and I will give you my VIP room to relax in. I leave that one empty.” Grinning ear to ear she knew why he would leave it empty and shook her head while walking away. She contemplated going out onto the dance floor, but at the same time she wasn’t quite sure how to dance. She doubted Seth would even allow her to dance, being just like a typical older brother, but who knows. Maybe this girlfriend of his might be able to get him out of his shell that he always seemed to hide in.
Stepping around couples she tried looking through the faces as best as she could. The darkness and flashing lights made it a tad tricky for her to be able to spot anyone in this place though.
Taking her phone out of her jacket pocket she hurried to send a text to her brother.
Hey where are you?
Three little dots popped on the screen before disappearing to reveal a message.
I will be there shortly. Diane just finished getting ready.
At least she knew it was pointless looking for him and could take her time to investigate the place like she had hoped she could.
Gazing around she noticed a balcony overhead with a second floor and decided to see exactly what might be up there. Maybe she would have better luck spotting Seth up there too when he arrived while getting a whole glimpse of the place.
Staying on the outskirts of the dance floor, she spotted the best route around the bodies to access the stairs. Side stepping around the dancers she made it to the stairs and up to the second-floor area of the club and onto the upper landing.
This area truly gave a good view of the dance floor, entrance and the bar. While taking a glance around she noticed glass encased areas with seating probably for those that were VIP guests. It allowed for those to see down below yet stay away from the overwhelming amount of bodies dancing and grinding away.
Leaning against the railing she just continued to gaze around in wonder at everyone and everything. Dex truly made an amazing place.
“Who do we have here?” The deep silky words reached her ears and taking a glance over she made eye contact with the most handsome man she had ever laid eyes on. His silver blue eyes ensnared her light turquoise ones, making it impossible to look away.
Bad boy was written all over this man. He had that classic medium hair length on top that was shorter on the sides and a scruffy face that accompanied it. From what she could tell his hair had to be black or dark brown. Taking a quick peek down she could tell he was definitely a fine specimen with defined muscle in all the right places. Woman probably feel head over heels for him.
Letting her senses out, she could tell right away that he was a vampire which was someone she should stay the furthest away from. With her family history it was best not to entertain any idea of being around him. Vampires and Van Helsing’s just didn’t mix. Her family let her know that enough.
Though, it was hard not to want to learn more about him. This was the first time she had ever felt this drawn to a guy, but it couldn’t end well.
Then again, she always did go by her instinct as it never steered her wrong before and right now her instinct told her to stay with him.
When he raised an eyebrow at her she realized she had left a bit of a silence between his question and now. “Someone that you’ve never met before.” She could sense a hint of annoyance come from him and that almost made her giggle out loud from getting him riled up. Instead, she stifled it by looking away from him and biting her lip slightly.
When she felt him shift to stand next to her, she glanced back over to him.
“Obviously that is correct. So, what might be your name?”
There was doubt he didn’t know her last name at least. She was good at locking her magic down tight that it could be tricky, but she could sense his power and how old he was. He would know her family lineage quickly enough. He may not know her personally, but she was sure he had dealings with her family before or at least knew of them.
“You and I both know you know what I am and therefore who I am.” Turning slightly, she locked eyes with him smiling softly when she saw the slight flicker of something in his eyes. “But if you want to know, I am a Van Helsing, but of course, you knew that. I go by Rory to be precise though.” Taking a glance down to the entrance she noticed her brother’s dirty blond head appear with a redhead next to him. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to meet up with someone.” With one more smile to him, she walked around him feeling his eyes borrowing in her.
For some reason that excited her far more than it ever should have.
Not giving him another glimpse, she headed straight for her brother knowing it best to not let him notice who she was chatting to. It was just better that way for everyone involved with how he can be a little overprotective of her at times.
