As they pulled up to the gates of the estate, Daniel saw there was a guard room at the gate and they had to open the gates and let them in by pushing a button. He also noticed guards walking around the perimeter of the grounds as the car slowly drove down the long white stone chip driveway.
“You live here?” Daniel exclaimed as he saw the massive white mansion in front of him as the car turned to stop side on to the building.
“Of course…this is my estate…I moved here three years ago to attend the college.”
“Christ…” Daniel breathed in awe as the driver came round and opened his door. He stepped out and looked up at the vast columns of the front entrance as Kysenia got out and walked past him towards the doors.
“Come on…” She said as she walked gracefully up the steps. Daniel followed along awe struck.
.
As they entered he looked even more amazed as everywhere was white tile and marble, Kysenia led him through the massive foyer, down the steps and into a great room that opened out to park like grounds with a swimming pool.
A butler appeared and took Kysenia’s robes as she kicked off her high heels. Daniel looked at her with bare feet, dropping four inches in height, and smiled. She looked quite normal all of a sudden.
“Come this way.” Kysenia said as she led him down a vast hallway to a set of double doors at the end, opening them she led him into another large lounge area, she closed the doors behind him.
“This is my private wing of the estate.”
“Your private wing? Bloody hell, Kysenia, I had no idea you were this rich.”
Kysenia laughed, he was so cute and naïve.
“Would you like a drink?” Kysenia asked as she walked to the drinks cabinet.
“You mean alcohol?”
“Sure…we’re all adults here.”
“Cool, yeah…got a beer though…I’m not used to spirits or wine.”
“I can get you one.”
Kysenia pulled her phone out and rang someone. “Can you bring in a beer for Daniel and get him some dinner, he must be starving after his training.” The person on the other end informed Kysenia that the kitchen was already finished for the evening. She contemplated making the human chef get up and do as he was ordered, but the person on the other end suggested take away. Kysenia caught Daniel’s eye and he grinned confirming he was both hungry and wanting take out as she took the phone from her ear and put it on speaker. “Do you like Indian?”
“Yeah, sounds good.”
“Yes, Indian will be fine…I don’t care what!” Kysenia growled back as the person asked what exactly, she looked at Daniel who was looking at her amused. She shrugged at him in question with an eyebrow raised. God, she was adorable.
“Anything as long as it’s not too hot…try a chicken madras or something?” Daniel offered.
“Did you hear that?” She asked to the phone then hung up.
“So you ring through the house it’s that large?” Daniel asked curiously.
“Yes, it’s a lot easier and quicker, we’re on our own network here.”
Daniel had walked over to a set of large bi-fold doors that led out to a private courtyard blocked from the rest of the grounds with hedging. As he walked out he noticed a hot tub and also another set of doors that led into the bedroom. He downcast his eyes and blushed as Kysenia walked out behind him. She grinned seeing his face. He grimaced.
“God, why?” He muttered.
“What’s the problem?” Kysenia chuckled as she sat down with her wine glass on an outside couch to enjoy the evening as dark approached. An outdoor gas fire on the one brick wall of the courtyard ignited into life and a thousand twinkling fairy lights lit up along the hedging as Aiden appeared in the doorway with a tray with a bottle of beer on it.
“Master.” Aiden bowed his head, then delivered the beer to Daniel. “Would you require a glass?”
“No, I’m fine, cheers.” Daniel said with a smile.
“Very well. Dinner has been ordered and will be half an hour away, do you require something in the mean time?”
“No thanks, I can wait.” Daniel said not used to being waited on.
“Leave Aiden…” Kysenia said wearily. She was sitting with her legs crossed, her head resting on her hand.
“At once, Master.” Aiden bowed and left hurriedly.
“Sorry about him.”
“Oh, he’s alright…It’s that Talon guy that scares me.” Daniel said with a nervous laugh.
Kysenia frowned. “You are perfectly safe from him.”
Daniel sat down next to Kysenia on the couch and sipped his beer, enjoying the perfect evening.
“Daniel, I have a proposition for you.”
“A prop…I figured you wanted something.” He took a swig of his beer.
“Yes…I want you.” Her eyes fixed on him with an intensely serious gaze.
Daniel spluttered his beer out. “Me?”
“Yes, I want you to be beside me…to just be there and you can hug me whenever you want to.”
“Are you serious?”
“Of course I am, but the thing is…”
“Oh, here it comes…” Daniel said, he still thought this was all a prank.
“Our society dictates I cannot date or be free with my affections for…ah…others.” Kysenia said stumbling over the word she was going to say…humans.
“What does that mean?”
“It means if you agree to be my…ah…companion as it were, you will need to sign a contract.” Again she stumbled over using the word pet, this was more difficult than she expected.
“A contract? Like a non-disclosure kinda thing?”
“Well, not quite, but yes along those lines…it will stipulate our agreement of our friendship and the details of what our relationship is clearly defined so my family and others will know your importance to me and that my protection covers you in all instances.”
“Your protection?” Daniel thought of the biker, drug dealer’s son Lucien.
“This is a very dangerous house…people are not welcome here…outsiders are discouraged. A contract would mean you would be considered as part of the interior, not an outsider.”
“Ah, okay…so I could come see you whenever…”
“So you can come and go as needed for college and training, yes…but you would live here.” Kysenia met his eyes again with that dark serious expression.
“Live here!”
“Yes, it would be essential.”
“Ah…just what is this relationship exactly…this is…” He lost his words and blushed.
“I’m not saying that...” Kysenia smirked and her eyes danced and sparkled in the fairy lights. “…although I’m not opposed…I have no intention of rushing anything with you…perhaps you should read the contract and decide from there…take it home…although I would rather you stayed here from tonight on.”
“Move in tonight?” Daniel stood up and raked a hand through his hair.
“You can stay in your own room, at least until the contract is signed.”
Daniel stared at her, he was dumbfounded and confused. This was the strangest first date he had ever been on. He couldn’t believe he was even contemplating just signing the contract blindly just to be with her, but when he looked at her he was very tempted.
“I don’t know what to say…” Daniel said awkwardly as he sat down and rubbed his face.
“It’s a lot to take in, so I’ll give you time, but I like you Daniel…and to be honest I haven’t liked anyone for a long time.”
Daniel looked at her and smiled. “I like you too.”
Kysenia smiled a truly beautiful smile and held her glass out. Daniel clinked it with his bottle and took a swig as she sipped her wine, subtly watching him from under her lashes.
“Wait here a moment.” Kysenia said as she got up and placed her drink down and walked inside.
Daniel noticed in the approaching evening gloom that Kysenia walked to the bedroom and the lights went on in there. He thought about what she had said about the contract and he wondered what it actually meant for him and her, did it make them a couple or just friends? He remembered her saying he could hug her but is that all he’s allowed to do? She said she wasn’t opposed to the idea…he was so confused by everything that was going on, it was all happening so fast.
.
After several minutes Kysenia appeared again wearing loose boyfriend jeans and a light white t-shirt with a white zip through hoodie that was open. Daniel’s eyes just about popped out of his head to see her hair down, cascading round her like a fiery aura, the white clothes making her hair look a deep blood red against it. Her hair was long, to her waist and shined in the lights.
“Wow!” Daniel blurted out as she came over and sat down, curling her legs under her on the couch and grabbing her wine.
Kysenia smiled. “Wow, yourself…” She said, her eyes almost iridescent in the nearing darkness.
She had got a nice surprise when he had got in the car, dressed in faded blue jeans and a dark blue hoodie, she thought he looked sexy as hell. His tall lean frame had looked marvellous in his football uniform too.
“You know when you had your hair tied back on top during training…that looked good.”
“You think so?” Daniel said amused and took another swig of his beer.
“Yeah…I think you should fade out the sides and back and leave the top longer and tie it back like that.”
“Hmm.” Daniel wondered how controlling this girl could be.
“I’m not telling you to do it.” Kysenia smiled as if she read his thoughts. “But tied back means I get to see your eyes…those beautiful unusual golden eyes.”
Daniel felt his cheeks flush. Damn it! Why does this girl make me blush all the time!
He had never received compliments from girls before, not like what Kysenia said to him. She was definitely aggressive and used to getting what she wanted. But did she want him? He still didn’t really know…he wanted her…but the more he saw of her lifestyle the more intimidated he got.
.
Aiden returned with dinner and another beer. Aiden fussed around the takeaways and then bowed his head in the doorway to outside. “Dinner is ready inside.”
They walked inside and Aiden handed Kysenia a glass of deep red liquid which she took and sat back and watched Daniel as he filled his plate and sat down and started eating with vigor, suddenly realising just how starving he was.
“It’s good…are you having some?” Daniel asked as he looked up and saw her and Aiden watching him.
“Maybe later...” Kysenia said with a slight grin and drank from the glass of red.
Aiden bowed his head to leave. “Aiden…” Kysenia called. “Bring the contract and set up a room for Daniel for the night.”
Aiden’s eyes seemed to glow as he grinned and bowed his head once again. “Certainly, master.”
“Why do they call you master? Wouldn’t you be mistress?” Daniel asked once Aiden had left.
Kysenia smiled as she watched Daniel eat and look at her waiting for her answer.
“The head of the family is always Master, regardless of s*x…most females in the family are called mistress by her…ah…servants, so it makes me stand above them.” She twerked her top lip slightly.
“Okay…wow…so position is really important, huh?”
“Yes it is…and that’s why it’s so dangerous and why I need you to realise as much as I wish to get to know you better, I must realise it puts you in danger.” Kysenia regarded him seriously. “That’s why you must agree to stay by my side so I can protect you.”
Daniel stopped eating. “Okay…this is starting to freak me out…”
“I’m sorry to hear that…” Kysenia said with a sad tinge and looked away draining her glass of red and putting it down and picking up her wine glass.
Daniel noticed whatever was in that glass wasn’t wine as it clung to the sides of the glass thickly.
“What is that?” He asked indicating the empty glass with his fork.
Kysenia smiled strangely. “Supplement.”
“Supplement? What sort of supplement?”
Kysenia realised with Daniel doing sport’s medicine he probably studied and had an interest in supplements. She frowned. “I’m a bit anemic…this is high in iron.”
“Oh.” He figured that’s why she was so pale. He took a moment to appreciate her creamy ivory complexion, it was truly flawless.
.
Aiden returned again and bowed his head as he placed the contract on the table in front of Daniel. He glanced at Kysenia and something past between them as he frowned slightly.
Kysenia waved her hand, dismissing him.
Daniel watched the exchange and then went to grab the contract.
“Leave it for now…there is more to be said first. Enjoy your meal…” Kysenia said in a tone not to be ignored causing Daniel’s hand to pause.
“Sure…it’s really good actually…” He said indicating the food. “So, thanks….but isn’t the guy supposed to buy dinner?”
Kysenia smiled beautifully at him. “Who says that?”
Daniel shrugged and grinned.
Kysenia watched him eat in silence for a few minutes while she thought about how to tell him what she actually was. A vampire.
She really wanted him to sign the contract and agree to become her pet - it was not exactly what she wanted of him but the only way to get a human close to her - she had realised when he hugged her for the second time that she needed him. There was something special about Daniel, something he didn’t even realise himself and that something had a calming effect on her, it seemed to center her and help her focus.
He was also imperceptible…the only human she had ever known that could actually approach a vampire without giving their presence away. He even seemed impervious to compulsion, although Kysenia had only just lightly tried it. Aiden had already noticed a couple of times but she knew he would stay silent. The fact that Daniel was drop dead gorgeous was an absolute bonus and she had to make him hers, but she had no idea how he was going to react to this…
