Chapter 10 - Mari

1087 Words
I could feel the tension rising within the office, and I knew I had only made it worse by giving the visiting Alpha the information he had requested, but I was meant to be here assisting him, so I had done as he had asked. Yet, looking at the way that Alpha Aaron was looking at me, that is likely going to come back and bite me in the ass, especially when my Dad hears about it… But the slight smile from the terrifying Alpha was a turn up for the books. But, no sooner than it appeared it was gone again. Like he had suddenly remembered he was not meant to smile or something. His dark glare once more upon his face. “I think we will return to pack. Give you some time to consider the corrections and amendments you were choosing to ignore. Otherwise I assume you would rather this business deal not go ahead?” The Alpha’s words were cold, and collected, and I looked to my own Alpha in shock. Was he seriously threatening to drop out of the business deal? Pack to pack business deals and arrangements were commonplace. It was often how packs made money to survive and working alongside one another was another form of protection if any attacks were to take place. Allies, so to speak. But, I had heard my Dad and my brother discussing this potential deal, and I knew that Alpha Aaron was keen to work with Obsidian Storm Pack. They had a multitude of contacts which could prove beneficial, and in the long-term create further business arrangements. I saw my Alpha’s face drop into a frown as the true realisation of what could occur seemed to hit him. Our pack could lose a lot if this not happen. “Alpha Carter, please…” He began, but Alpha Carter was already up and out of his seat, swiftly followed by the two men that had come in with him. His Beta and his Gamma from what I recall. This visiting Alpha was renown for being brutal. To the point. Harsh. And he was not disappointing today. Taking no messing from my pack Alpha. In action this man was intimidating. Dominating. But another pack Alpha should not be swayed by that... “Good day, Alpha.” One of the men alongside Alpha Carter said warmly, with a wry smile upon his face. “And good day to you too, Miss Mari.” He nodded his head. “Your help has been appreciated.” Out of the corner of my eye I caught sight of my Alpha slowly shaking his head. My help was not appreciated by him. In fact he was not happy by it at all, and the silence on the subject only further backed up that notion within my mind. He was going to wait until these men were gone and then make me see my wrong doing. But, with the eyes of our three guests upon me, I offered him a small, nervous smile, knowing that my Alpha was still watching, and that I was under serious scrutiny right about now for putting him in the situation we currently found ourselves. “Don’t suppose you mind walking us out do you, Mari?” The same man asked, looking at me again, and I nodded, glad of the excuse to walk away from my Alpha, and also desperate to get outside near the men that had travelled with the Alpha. Because, out there with them was my mate! My fated mate, who's presence had hung heavy within my mind since the moment I had noticed him. Desperate to go and find him, and now I finally could... Initially when I went to the office I had thought I may have plenty of time, believing they would be staying within pack, but now it appeared, I would have none. I needed to find him. I wanted to find him! And hopefully he would be as keen to take me home as I would be to go with him. This matebond could be the thing to save me! Turn my life around... “I am able to do that.” Alpha Aaron interrupted, edging his way toward the door. "There is no reason for Mari to take you back, I am able to walk you back myself." “Mari is just fine.” Alpha Carter said bluntly, taking me by surprise, considering the fuss he had kicked up earlier at my mere presence. “We were not good enough earlier for you to meet and to escort to your office. You felt Mari was the one suitable for the job, so she is more than suitable to do the same now, thanks all the same. Come along, Mari” I looked up at the intimidating Alpha as he looked down at me with his icy eyes. His gaze demanding. I moved toward him, quick to avoid any eyes contact with my own Alpha, because I could only imagine his fury at my actions, as well as the easy dismissal from Alpha Carter. I could see the two men by the Alpha’s side trying not to smile, as they moved to the door. “We shall be waiting to hear from you. You have no more than a week and then the deal is off the table.” Alpha Carter said coldly, turning to look back at Alpha Aaron as he opened the door. My pack needed to do all they could to rectify the issues they had created with this business arrangement, because as it stood they stand to lose everything. Alpha Carter and his pack do not come across as people that will be messed around. And, from what I could see, my Alpha had already pushed his luck. I rushed out of the office in front of the three men, my Alpha’s eyes boring into the back of my head. He certainly was not happy they had demanded by presence over his own. ‘You keep your damn mouth shut. Do not give them any information they do not need. You already said too much.’ He snapped at me through the link, and I knew then I was going to be in trouble when they left. As I rushed along the packhouse hallway with the three men following not far behind, I could only hope I found my mate quickly as soon as we were outside, and wasted no time in leaving with him…
