She stepped back into the office. All tense and on edge. I had no understanding as to why she had fled, but the second she walked back into that room I could sense her uncertainty; causing my eyes to move to her. There were tears within those big blue eyes of hers. Were they because of us… or me, perhaps I should say, seeing it appeared I was the reason she was scared according to my friends. Not that it mattered. This she-wolf was nothing to do with us.
But as I took in the expression upon her face it bothered me. She appeared to be fighting tears, and that was without anyone acknowledging her presence. Was there something else going on? I pondered.
‘Do you actually care?’ Draven questioned, and I realised that my wolf was right. I did not care. Not in the slightest. We were here to confirm the original business arrangements, and then a later meeting would be required to refine them. The she-wolf they had assigned to be here was of little relevance. In fact, I was unsure why they felt her presence was even needed.
“Took your time did you not?” I demanded, as the tiny little thing sat her trembling little ass back in her seat, not daring to meet the eyes of any one of us around the table. She was like a terrified little child. For a werewolf she was pathetic.
‘Jeez, Carter, give the f*****g girl a break!’ Hudson snapped through the mindlink. ‘She likely ran out because of you. Don’t make her run again just as she had the courage to come back. We are meant to be making a good impression, or that is generally what people try to do when setting up business deals, you know?’
I offered my friend a wry smile. ‘Can’t hack the heat, stay out of the kitchen, I believe they say.’
‘Hmm. Isn’t a kitchen where you are concerned, it is hell.’ Hudson told me with a shake of his head, before looking toward the she-wolf.
“Ignore my Alpha, I think he got out of the wrong side of bed this morning. Early starts are not his thing.” He apologised. He f*****g apologised on my behalf, the cheeky little f**k. I growled in disagreement, earning myself a cold glare from my friend, and a raised brow from Alpha Aaron of Eldermoon Pack. This meeting was far from how it was meant to be happening. We had been here near an hour and all we had established so far was that the Alpha was too lazy to greet his own guests, coffee had been drunk, and the little she-wolf assigned to us was pathetic. No, she was beyond pathetic. I was beginning to question if she was even a wolf, as I was certain there was no scent of one...
“Did you gentleman have an opportunity to scan over the paperwork before you came?” Alpha Aaron asked awkwardly from his seat, bringing my attention back to him.
“Yes. You know that, because we sent back a whole list of corrections, and adjustments that were needed.” I argued.
“Oh, really?” The Alpha was attempting to sound very dismissive right about now, which instantly put me on edge. “I don’t recall receiving that email…” He began. Like f**k he didn’t. Trying his best to avoid the necessary changes to complete the deal. I swear this fucker tried getting around what was expected of him and we would walk right on out of here, and he could shove that deal where the sun don’t shine.
My eyes met his stony cold stare. He was trying hard to be defiant. Trying and failing when it came to my own icy glare. I was not about to be fooled. “Girl.” I clicked my fingers to the she-wolf here for assisting us, who at that moment for the life of me, I could not remember her name. Her head shot in my direction while in my peripheral vision I watched as my Gamma, Sonny, dropped his head to his hands at my rudeness.
My rudeness seemed irrelevant, I had the girl's attention, so I went with it. “Is it possible for you to bring up the business emails on the system for me? Ensure the email was received please?” I demanded, and her big blue eyes looked back at me with uncertainty, likely knowing what I was asking would be going against her pack and Alpha, but she slowly nodded.
“Yes, Alpha Carter. Of course. When do you believe it was sent?” She asked, suddenly sounding a whole lot more confident that she had looked.
Just as I am about to answer, Alpha Aaron stepped in and interrupted. “Erm, I don’t believe there is need for that, and incidentally Alpha Carter, you are the visiting Alpha, please do not be demanding access to my pack emails nor sytems, thank you.”
I chuckled, knowing I had done exactly as I had wanted. Got the man riled. “I don’t want access to your system, or to check out the rest of your emails, Aaron, if that is what you are panicking for. All I was asking the girl to do was to check if my email was received. Because I can easily check my own system and see that it was sent, because I know that it was. Know why? Because I sent it myself. But the fact you are denying ever recieving it tells me you either have a fault within your system, or you are lying. Either way, that could be an issue.” I told the Alpha coldly.
“I do not appreciate the insinuation I am lying.” Alpha Aaron snapped, pushing his chair back from the desk. “If we are working together do you not think trust would be needed?”
“Strangely, that is exactly what I was thinking.” I retaliated, beginning to dislike the man more and more. He was becoming incredibly defensive which told me that he had most likely lied about the email. All because he did want to make the relevant changes because they were in my favour. "Which was why I raised my concerns."
“Yet you still are implying you do not trust me in the slightest. Or else why would you be there accusing me of lying.” The Alpha snapped, his eyes darkening, and his stance becoming aggressive. Was this guy for f*****g real? He was all for this business arrangement and now he was acting this way?
“Your email was received.” A small voice piped up from across the table, bringing my attention to the meek little she-wolf. "Recieved and read, Alpha Carter." She added, giving me a small nod. In all the confrontation I had not noticed her opening up one of the many laptops present upon the desk, and begin typing. Seems she had done exactly as I asked, and looking at the angry look upon her Alpha’s face he did not appreciate her proving his dishonesty.
I chuckled, offering the she-wolf a small smile. “You may be a little panicky, but it seems you may be useful after all.”
