Chapter 40: Killer

I ran far from the entrance until I was on the verge of sweating, then I slowed to a good jogging pace until the wind died down slightly. In the distance I could see huddled forms of the aquatic birds, conserving warmth. I feel suddenly grateful for my cold resistant clothes and temperature training as a child, so much that I suddenly felt like crying. I hold it back quickly and keep walking towards the birds, trying to control my hormones.  The birds don't mind the human sized snow drift as it stopped several yards away and strung a bow. They also didn't mind as it pulled the string back and aimed at them. I held the bow tightly, calmly taking in the facts about the wind and what to do when I hit one. I aim a little farther to the right and pull the bow harder for more distance. I shoot
