Zane's POV
Last night, I was ambushed, I lost some of my men and my means of communication, I had to go to the nearest hide out, alone and dying from a wound from a mystical weapon.
With my werewolf genes, regular warm-blooded doctors wouldn't have been able to help me. The poison in the blade slowed my werewolf genes down while the poison quickly spread to target the heart.
I needed to get to my penthouse to get the medicine my mother made for me. I would have died if someone hadn't helped me last night. I thought that things would have cooled down by now, but it looks like my brother won't give up until he sees me dead.
My mother comes from a fallen royal werewolf bloodline. In order to save her family, she married my father as a business arrangement. Well, at least that is how it began.
It didn't take long for my mother to fall in love with my father. She loved him so much so that she imprinted on a man whose heart and soul belonged to another.
My father wasn't in love with my mother. He only needed her to give him an heir. When that was done, he banished us to Berlise with nothing.
That man left us to fend for ourselves, which wasn't easy. While we struggled to eat regularly, he married another wife and had another son with her. He didn't stop there. He named him the heir of his kingdom.
My father took everything that belonged to us and gave it to another woman. So I made my mother a promise that I would do everything in my power to make him regret his decision to abandon us.
He didn't think that I could do it, that I could thrive in the prison he wanted me to rot in. I took Berlise and turned it into my Kingdom, climbing higher than anyone could ever imagine.
I spent the last ten years putting my life together, I worked hard, I have fought tooth and nail to make something of myself, and now, my mother lives like a queen, she's the envy of every woman in Berlise.
I didn't inherit my family's pack, the one I was born into, I made a pack of my own, a family of my own, a pack that chose me to be their leader, all of that, without my father's help.
I chose to do to him what he did to me, I ignored him, but even that was not enough for my father and brother. That man won't stop at nothing to see me and my mother suffer.
Which is why they ambushed me last night. I know that my brother was the one who set me up, the same way I know that he couldn't have done it if my father wasn't supporting him.
He wants to take my things away from me. The only reason I haven't killed my father is because I know that it would break my mother's heart. She imprinted on him. If he dies, she might just die with him.
I might hate my father, but I love my mother. This is why I promised myself that I would never fall in love. That is why I have always kept my heart locked.
In Berlise, they call me ruthless and heartless. There's also a rumor that I did a ritual that stopped my heart from beating, which is why I can't love anyone else besides my mother
No one knows that I don't want to love anyone else because I don't want them to end up like my mother. I am cursed, my life span is short, it might be a year, or five years from now, but I know that I will not live to see thirty-five.
According to the prophecy, there's only one who can save me. According to the elders, my savior is a werewolf from another pack, one with a royal bloodline like mine, only stronger.
Not only that, but her bloodline must be the oldest there is, one of the first four original werewolf bloodlines. The first werewolves to walk the earth with the power of the firebird Phoenix. Since then, only one royal bloodline has thrived through the ages.
But no one really knows much about them. They're are so well hidden, they must as be a myth. Even if they were real, and this woman actually existed, it still wouldn't work. Even if I could mate with her, I would never imprint. Either way, I'm dead.
I came to this city following a lead that she might be here, living amongst the humans. That is why my brother was able to set up a trap for me. It's okay, though. I will make him pay dearly for this.
The lift to the penthouse opened, and I knew from the strong male scent that it was Alex. His scent was nothing like the sweet vanilla and marigold scent marigold that lingered in the air.
Memories of last night crashed through my mind like a flood. I was in a daze last night. The poison had weakened me, and the Alexa knocked me out. Still, I remember her legs around my waist and the sweet sounds of her moans.
And the fact that she left as soon as she woke up. She didn't even leave a number or give me her name. Alex budged into the bedroom as I was getting out of bed.
" Alpha Zane..." Alex said and turned around as soon as he realized that I wasn't wearing anything.
" I'm sorry ... It's just that we thought you were dead... You didn't press the alert button when you got here, we couldn't find you..." He said to me.
" I know..." I said and put on my pants.
My eyes landed on a black lace piece peeking out from under my pillow, I pulled it out, it was a lace thong, I put it to my nose, I smelled a strong female scent, it was sweet and alluring, almost intoxication. I put it in my pocket.
" You can turn around..." I said to Alex.
I pulled back the bed cover to find my tie and found a bracelet with charms instead.
" Boss, what's that?" Alex asked me, pointing at the bracelet with a confused look on his face.
" Something left by someone..." I said to him.
" Do you know what that is?" he asked me.
" A talisman... but the woman I was with last night is just a simple human, normal warmblood... How did she end up with something like this?" I said to him.
" You were with a woman? I thought I smelled an unfamiliar sweet female scent... Normally, you won't even let a woman touch you, so I thought maybe the scent is from one of the maids. Your mother even thought that you were gay, I'm glad you're straight. She will be happy to hear that..." he said to me with a smile and stopped talking as soon as he saw the cold glare on my face.
" Sorry..." he said and bowed his head.
" It's just that we were worried about you.." he said to me.
" As you can see, I am perfectly fine... I took the Alexa, a whole vile, and healed the poison..." I said.
" Ahhh... that's why you didn't call us... and probably why you hooked up with a human girl, right? where is the body? We need to get rid of it before someone finds it," he said to me.
" There is no body. She left a few minutes ago..." I said to him.
" So she's not a human? Is she a witch? She can't be a werewolf, she would have been found out a long time ago, it's not easy for a werewolf to live amongst the humans and not get caught, especially in a city like this, you know, they say that the magic in this city died thousands of years ago... besides that, as far we all know, there are no werewolf clans this far north in the continent," Alex said to me.
" She might not be a werewolf, but she's not a witch either. If she was, she would have used magic to heal me last night... Not only that, I would have felt it in her blood," I said to him.
" You mated with a human after taking the alexa? And she actually survived? Something doesn't add up..." he said to me.
Because the Alexa is made to speed up the process of supernatural healing, theoretically, she shouldn't have been able to survive, besides my strength, the magical remedy exerts too much power for a human body to handle, and nothing exchanges power like s*x. All that power should have been too much for her to handle.
" Yes, but I think that alexa's power must have been suppressed by the poison, which is why she was able to survive," I said to him.
I don't know, but somehow, knowing that she was fine put my heart at ease. I don't know who she is, but last night, she saved me more than once, and she doesn't even know it.
" Boss... Are you smiling?" Alex asked me. I gave him an icy glare.
" Sorry," He said to me.
" Is everything ready?" I asked him.
" Yes... Your mother has been moved to a more secure location, and as instructed, we don't know where she is," he said to me.
" Good, what about the other thing? How close are you to finding her?" I asked him.
" I don't know sir, this city is strange, none of our magical objects works, as for technology, we can't find someone we don't know, having a picture would have made things easier," he said to me.
" My job is not you make things easier for you, I am running out of time Alex, with every full moon that comes, I can feel myself getting weaker... she's the only one who can save me. You need to find her," I said to him.
" Yes, boss, we'll find her," he said to me.
" Also, I want you to find out who this belongs to," I said to him.
" Boss, you mean the woman you were with last night?" he asked me, and he sounded shocked.
" Hmm," I said.
" Okay then, what's her name? Do you know where she works?" he asked me.
" I wouldn't be asking you to find her if I did..." I said to him.
" Does this mean that you actually want to see her again?" he asked me.
" No, why would I be interested in warm blood? She was just a means to an end. She's not my mate... but she saved my life and I want to repay her, find out who she is, give this back to her, it's a protection talisman, it must be important," I said to him.
" Right on it," he said and put it in his pocket.
" On second thoughts... I'll hold on to the bracelet till you find her," I said and took the bracelet back.
" Prepare us for take off, after what happened last night, it's safe to say that this city is not safe, we're going back home, let someone else continue with the search," I said to him.
