Chapter 39: There’s a Reason They Call Them PaybacksHoward and Gene hid in the parking lot waiting for Marjorie and the kids to roll up. They waited exactly twenty minutes until they entered the hospital. They figured that gave Jason, Marjorie, and the kids just enough time to talk, and then get a little worried about where Howard might be.
Finally, Howard and Gene made their way into the building, up the elevator, and into Jason’s room.
“My babies,” Howard called out. “Thank God, you’re here. We almost lost your father.”
James and Janey ran to him. They were much better at this than Howard realized.
“Marjorie, thank you so much for getting them. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you,” Howard said.
Marjorie practically ran to him.
“You don’t need to repay me, Howard,” she assured him
