Chapter 38: A Reassuring ConspiratorJason reached for the phone next to his hospital bed. Strangely, he had committed Marjorie’s cell phone number to memory in the last week or so, and he dialed it.
“I’m almost at the airport. I’ll pick the kids up, and everything’s going to be fine,” Marjorie said. “You’re on speaker by the way, but I’m still alone in the car.”
“You’ll tell the kids what happened?” Jason asked, wondering what his kids would think of this new lie.
“Yes, and they will think you were brilliant. I’ll brief them on what to say, and what not to say. The more natural their responses, the better,” Marjorie explained.
“I’m just worried I’m going to get caught,” Jason said.
“You’re not if you play it cool. Relax, let people wait on you, and take care of you.”
