CHAPTER II: COLONEL OF THE BATTALION (2)
The main objective of dragons was to destroy the central root mother when it rose upon, since the destruction of this being dismantled the whole army of the Nénufar Beasts, and put an end to the endless battle. It happened this way because the beings acted in coordination, according to the signals of the Mother Root. With the death of it, all the Nénufares were also detached from life, and functioning.
The Ûm Group then left the trail of the way the hundreds of warriors needed to follow to approached the region, and descending, they entered a storm. Faint but incessant rain began with glowing lightning, which had an amazing aspect of a silver light. They fell deep in their midst, and large mountainous areas started to show up. Both moons were gradually shining with a bright appearance. Gisma, the smallest moon, was reaching its maximum waning level, while Rea the major moon, was still in its increasing phase.
The beings of Nénufar waited for those small spaces between the stormy dark clouds, to absorb the kinetic energy that these moons offered with their movement and splendor. That is when the Ûm Group finally arrived the zone, and descended at ground level with incessant rain; the Neufaros were already rising among the ground, and the dragons passed between them; dodging them. The monsters multiplied. With great anger, they destroyed everything in their path, trying to get the dragon’s attention. Capturing some in their path, but the strategy of the three hundred warriors of the attack group was clear: locate the swamp areas where the great Neufratos beings tried to emerged; they waited for their elevation, and immediately attack the main beasts.
They divided themselves to locate these areas and surround them. At that moment, the Sol group reached the zone, which corresponded to another two hundred dragons. They immediately start the attacking of the Neufaros, taking care of them and providing a great defense on the battlefield.
Dragons and Nenufares were impassively fighting each other. At a sudden moment, the water from the river began to rise simultaneously, something that had never been seen before in these battles. It was a synchronized elevation.
Hundreds and hundreds of monsters emerged from the swamps, with the direct signal of attacking all the dragons. From one moment to the next, they put the Ûm Group dragons in numerical disadvantage. The Colonel was forced to assign the group Quetra of rescue, as an additional attack group, for they were arriving at this moment. This decision represented a risk to the survival of the Army, but Kramian was an experienced dragon, the best for war strategy. He knew what he was doing.
With this movement, the Army of Splendor began to destroy hundreds of the monsters as a team, but their regeneration seemed endless. The dragons, this time, did not have their victory assured. The rain intensified, and lightning did not favor either side, annihilating Dragons and Nénufars at random. The battlefield was a real hell; a real agony for both sides.
Coelum and twenty other dragons were fighting in one of the main swampy areas. Their deadly breaths, attacked directly in forms of roars to the rising Neufratos, and overlooked the Neufaros who came from all sides. The swamp monsters’ goal was to distract the dragons to allow the elevation of their superior beings.
The distraction was achieved successfully, and suddenly, a giant Neufratos emerged, one of the greatest of the entire battle. Desperate, Coelum attacked the monster, but he failed to direct his squad correctly, which led to an uncoordinated attack which was unable to tear the monster down. The being grew fast, and popped out two heads. It left the swamp, enlarged its extensions in elongated forms, and embedded its huge stringers in the aquatic soil near the river. It used the strong currents to attack the dragons; throwing them a jet of water that hit them severely, knocking them all down.
“It is indestructible!” said a dragon.
“It is not!” Coelum exclaimed, while rising with one of his weak wings. “We need to attack one of their head, and with this we will tear It down! But we must do it together, are you with me?”
“Yes sir!” the dragon squad shouted.
The dark sky began to clear, and the storm calmed down, allowing the shining flashes of moonlight to illuminate the battlefield, giving the Lileín’s monsters an advantage as they began to absorb more energy. The squad then rose over the skies, with powerful roars of fire towards the Neufratos' head. It weakened and baffled it, but this only increased it fury. It plunged into the lower acidic water of its swamp, and threw it into the squad.
Kramian saw his son fighting from afar. He was together with the Ûm Group. They were in an area of two huge Néufrates. From the distance, he inhaled to the fullest, and the Legendary Ruby Roar emanated, knocking down one of the two beings in his zone.
With the area now under control, he told Fliper to withdraw from his position and go to the area where his brother was located. He immediately flew to the place where the squad was.
Fliper and Coelum then began to orchestrate the battle against what looked like the Greatest Neufratos. They directed a tactic together, which was based on surrounding the Neufratos from the lower zone, and as they were gradually rising, they attacked with fire spheres which were directed at the main points of the giant being. The Swamp Monster finally fell. Similarly, the Ûm Group knocked down the pending Neufratos, along with many others in the zone.
The dragons seemed to dominate, until the greater moon Rea reached its perfect waning state. Perfectly aligned with Gisma´s light, they radiated an impressive energy. There was suddenly a terrifying silence. Resonant earthworks began to take place in the area where the princes of fire were located. The begetting of the Mother Root began. It used the remains of the monsters to grow even more. It rose between the coastlines of Lileín River and the nearer swampy areas, reaching an impressive size, and throwing large amounts of acid waters at the dragons in the air.
The Colonel redirected all the efforts of the Battalion to the great Major Neufratos; guiding the groups Um, Sol and Quetra to the attack it. Trying to bring down the monster of never-before-seen proportions.
“We are in the final stage!” exclaimed Kramian. “We have lost many warriors, and they will not have given up their lives in vain! Let's make it worth it! There is no turning back! Let's show them why we are the guardians of this world! Let's show them why we swear to protect the lands that have blessed us so much! We will triumph and we will rejoice with love in our home and with our families! Let’s fight with the fury of the Kingdom of the Great Wėzhreem! Army of Splendor, once again, let's go for them!”
A wave of enraged dragons headed for the attack. Kramian, Coelum and Fliper directed the onslaught towards the Greater Neufratos. It began to receive hundreds of flaming and portentous roars, but the monster caught Fliper with one of its colossal arms and threw him towards the depths of the nearby forest.
Coelum went to his brother, who was going in the direction to rescue him for he had been trapped by a small camouflage Neufaros inside the forest. He arrived at the place, and Fliper was seriously injured. He had hit himself with a big stone. Weakened, he tried to take refuge under a tree. He was cornered by the little monsters, which seemed to multiply among the bushes. Coelum then, tried to defend his brother, but there were too many of them. They knocked him down, and tore off one of his wings. Defeated, they began to trample on him with their great leg roots, crushing his helmet.
Fliper regained consciousness, and when he saw his brother about to be shattered, he got up and defended him. With immeasurable fury, he annihilates the Neufaros that Coelum had on top of him, and frightened everyone else of them.
He grabbed his brother and rose over the heights of the forest to leave the place. He tried to retreat to a quiet area on the outskirts of the Region, as both were seriously injured. Along the way, a Neufratos threw a litter of poisonous water that fell into the dragon's eyes, causing an abrupt descent with his brother. Both of them fell on the shore of the river, in an area full of Neufaros.
Fliper tried to defend himself against the immediate attacks of the monsters while trying to snatch Coelum on the only rock found in the place. Sitting and seriously injured, he tried to support his brother with spherical roars of fire. All of this happened at the banks of an enraged river; in the presence of fearful currents. Fliper began to weaken. His armor no longer served him and his knees loosened. He battled with six Neufaros at the same time.
Coelum, taking his last breaths, emitted faint roars of fire. He was behind his brother. One of the monsters bit Fliper’s tail, plucked the tip of it and buried it towards his heart. The warrior fell on the ground, while Coleum shouted his name. The injured prince was thrown beside his brother.
Enraged, Coelum overloaded his energy and displayed a very powerful technique taught by the Golden King himself, the spell of the Perfect Quadrant. An attack that emanated a roar of golden fire that broke into two breathtaking flames and two rays of red fire came out of the scaly skin holes of his hands. He managed to kill all the Neufaros with the impressive magic wave, but the spell got out of control and burned almost the entire area.
With tears in his eyes, he grabbed his brother and dragged him towards him, giving him one last hug.
The Army of Splendor, despite its titanic efforts, failed to bring down the Central Neufratos, and conditions began to complicate. The storm fell again. The rushing sky drowned the region. The triumph was lost sight of. The Colonel looked around impatiently, for his mind did not allow him to concentrate. His children did not return, and he did not see them anywhere. He retired from his position and got up on the heights of the region to look for them with a group of dragons.
Flying outside, they realized that on the riverbank, there was a covered area in flames; where he found Coelum with his brother, in his arms.
“What happened? Why are you alone here?!” exclaimed Kramian. “I need a rescue team immediately!”
"Father," the dragon replies in tears. “My brother has sacrificed his life for me.”
“It´s okay son, just hold on. Where the hell is the Rescue Group leader?!”
Coelum released Fliper, and he fell into his father's arms. Although he kept calling for the rescue team in despair, there was nothing left that could be done, other than the farewell. Coelum looked his father in the eyes, and with the last remaining strength he had, tried to be honest with him.
“Did I do well father?” he questioned. “I hope I have done well. You are the most important thing to me, and I’ve always wanted to make you proud, that I am your son.”
"I am and I will always be proud of you, my son" exclaimed the Colonel in tears. “I'm sorry I didn't value you as I should have. I'm sorry I didn't love you as I had to. You are a warrior with a huge heart.”
"I love you father" Coelum replied, "take care of my son. I dreamed of him before having him father. He is a special Raēn, and I know he will be a great warrior.”
“I will guide him to glory, and he will be exalted in your name” responded the Colonel.
Kramian, rose among the flames of the ground, with aridity of revenge. His dilated pupils, turned reddish and dark. Melancholic, he raised his energy to an impressive strength, left the group of dragons with his deceased children and headed impetuously back to the battlefield.
When he reached the war zone, he headed straight for the Central Neufratos, sweeping his path with all the monsters that crossed his path. A group of dragons were distracting the greater monstrosity. The Colonel gave them the signal to continue doing so. He had a plan.
Kramian then descended to ground level, as the fastest dragon in the entire army. He decided to enter the center of the monster to destroy the main foundations of it. He flew between the giant roots that formed the true maze and reached the nucleus energy of the creature. It was protected by two large Neufratos, which he quickly eliminated with his roars.
He plunged into poisonous waters to locate the main foundations and found them. He then, placed a reddish stone winged between them. He came out of the swampy waters, positioned himself, charged all of his energy, and from his mouth came the most powerful roar he had made in his life.
He emitted a golden fire that pierced the water and entered the foundations. Suddenly, two Supreme Dragons appeared, joined him, and stood behind him. Glowing purple and greenish fire roars emanated additionally. The combination of these three roars caused an explosion in the stone, which refracted the incandescent magical flames in the core of the creature, adhering to the entire structure of it.
It was then, when all parts of the Nénufar began to explode, until the damaging fires reached the head of the monster, where the seed was. The head was quickly destroyed. Thus, they defeated the main monster, and when this colossal fall happened, the Nénufar beings began to disintegrate one by one. Falling abruptly on the ground; disintegrating, for it was the fall of the Marsh Monsters. Dragons savored victory. It meant the triumph for Splendor once again. They celebrated on the heights, with the exception of Kramian, who still mourned the loss of his two children.
He went to the shores of the region, where they were. He grabbed both of the bodies, gave them the Dragonary Blessing, and placed them in the streams of the Lileín River, allowing their souls to rest in the nectar of the region, which Mother Nature welcomed with great care. Thanks to this, their energies would prevail in this world for all eternity.
The Colonel indicated the withdrawal to the Hanging Gardens; seeing in the distance, a region covered in flames; moons lost in the sky. The Dragons of the Army of Splendor were received as heroes. And all the dragons of the kingdom were in the central squares. The Golden King was also there, and Kramian hugged him, breaking into tears.
Without mentioning a word, Wiz knew what had happened. He congratulated him and assured him that his children would find peace. He told him that, when the moons reached their entire phase, their lights will elaborate the path for the Divine Bridge of the Spirits, which leads the Raēn to live an eternal life of joy.
Wiz emphasized that he won the war, increased his powers and his leadership, and reminded him that he had a new story to write; a story with his heir. A new story with his grandson.
"I promise you King Wėzhreem" he exclaimed, "that I will take care of this being with love, and not with vanity. With care, and not with ambition. I will show him everything I know and everything I have, for he is the last thing that has a meaning in this life.”
“Welcome to the Hanging Gardens, my little boy!” he continued. “I am your grandfather, and I will protect you and love you with all my life, and your name will be Bongo.”
