Just as Bella began telling the story I noticed that Renesmee seemed eager to hear the whole story from the beginning. Everyone in the room was silent except for Bella who began.
"It started at Forks High. I was sitting with Jessica, Angela, Mike and Eric at our table when they walked in. First was Rosalie and Emmett then Alice and Jasper and lastly Edward. From the moment I made eye contact with him it was as if he was a industrial sized magnet and I a simple paperclip. I was drawn to him." She paused.
"And I was drawn to Bella only I was the simple paperclip and she the magnet. Charlie, the day I first encountered your daughter it scared me because vampires don't change physically and rarely change mentally. It was like a wildfire was lit inside me, only the fire couldn't be extinguished. Her blood-"
Charlie held up his hand. "Please don't tell me you sucked my daughters blood." He snapped.
Bella giggled. "Of course not dad. Edward continue, he said he wanted to know everything."
I grinned. "For over a century I had not had human blood allure me as hers did. It took all my strength and will to not-"
"A- a century? But you are 18." Charlie interrupted again.
I shook my head. "I'm 17 and have been for 109 years." I gave it a few seconds to sink into his mind before I continued. "It took all my strength and will to not want to suck every drop of blood from her body that first day." Charlie's body went rigid. "When the day was over I left Forks and went to stay with my cousins in Denali for a week. I needed to better understand what was happening to me and what I should do."
"That day in biology with him I thought from the way he looked at me that he hated me so I planned on confronting him and asking him what his problem was the next time I saw him only we ended up having a civilized conversation about the weather and why I moved to Forks." Bella chuckled.
"Then after school-" I heard Bella's breath hitch as she remembered the day. "I was waiting for Rosalie and Emmett by the car with Alice and Jasper when I saw it. I saw the van go out of control and head towards Bella. Then I saw it hit her and she was gone."
"That's a load of crap the van never hit my daughter." Charlie snapped.
"He saw it from Alice's thoughts." Bella explained.
"Some vampires have gifts and my family, well most of it, has them. I can read minds and Alice can see the future."
"Okay, well what am I thinking about." Charlie challenged.
I looked into his mind. "You are thinking about fishing next weekened with Billy and the fish fry for dinner."
Charlie eyes widened for a millisecond. "Okay, I guess he can read minds. Continue with the story."
I nodded my head. "Like I mentioned, Alice can see the future and she saw the van crushing Bella. At the same time she was having the vision I was reading it from her mind. Before I could explain my actions I was running across the parking lot at vampire speed. In the next couple seconds I had put myself between Bella and the van and used my strength to push it away."
"You saved my daughters life?" Charlie asked in disbelief.
"Dad I mentioned that in the emergency room remember? I said to Carlisle if Edward hadn't have been there-"
"Oh yeah. I guess I didn't realize that until now." He said as he ran his fingers over his stubble before taking another swig from the beer.
"That was the day I knew I would do anything to keep her safe."
"And he did. I mean if it wasn't for him keeping a eye on me when I went to Port Angeles I could have been dead." Bella added.
"I guess you can call it shadowing. I noticed after a short while that Bella has a unintentional knack for finding trouble so I knew I couldn't let her go to Port Angeles unprotected. She didn't know I was there though until I showed up to save her."
"Wait, back up. What happened? Why did she need saving?" Charlie asked desperately.
"I had slipped away from Angela and Jessica to go to a book store while they were looking at dresses and on my way out a group of guys who were drinking cornered me and tried to-"
"Lets just say the thoughts on their minds were the worst." I cut in. "I picked Bella up and took her to her friends."
"Thank you." Charlie said again.
I nodded my head in acknowledgement. "When we got to the resturaunt they were supposed to be having dinner at her friends were just on their way out so I sat with Bella while she ate and then brought her to the station."
"That was the night he told me he could read minds." Bella cut in.
"Yeah, and the funny part was I mentioned that I couldn't read her mind and she asked me what was wrong with her."
Charlie started laughing. Then suddenly it stopped. "That was the night Wayland was found dead."
"It wasn't an animal that killed him dad. It was James, Victoria and Laurant." Bella said.
"No way a human could have done that, let alone three." Charlie replied.
"That's because the three aren't human they are vampires. The kind that kill humans." Bella explained.
Charlie's mind went into overdrive with worry and fear.
"They are dead. They all died trying to kill Bella." I explained.
"Why would they want to kill Bella?" Charlie asked.
"The day I went to play baseball with his family they came to us to ask if they could join and discovered I was a human. James who is a hunter was intrigued from how Edward was protective over me and saw a new game. Thats why I left Forks that night. It wasn't because of you I swear. I just knew you wouldn't let me go so easily without a good reason so I told you what mom said when she left. I'm sorry." Bella moved her hand over her fathers.
"Bells its okay." Charlie said before pressing his lips to her forehead. "Brrrr. You are cold."
Bella laughed. "Yeah and I will always be." Then she continued. "Edwards family did everything they could to protect me. Alice and Jasper drove me down south to Arizona while Carlisle and Esme stayed to make sure you were protected. Emmett, Rosalie and Edward tried to lead James away. But it failed. While Alice, Jasper and I were in the hotel room she had a vision of the ballet studio that I went to as a kid. Then later James called from moms house and tricked me into going there to save her."
"It was a trap from the beginning."
"When I arrived to the ballet studio I realized mom wasn't there, but James was. I sprayed him with the pepper spray you gave to me but it only made him mad. He threw me across the room and I hit my head. There was blood. Then he crushed my leg." Bella said. Her voice was monotone as she recalled the account.
"Then I showed up and knocked James away from her."
"He lifted me into his arms and we were about to escape when James caught us and pulled us back. I fell on some glass and it stabbed me in my leg. Then while Edward was down James bit me."
"When vampires bite humans they inject venom into their blood stream that renders them in so much pain it paralyzes them. If the vampire doesn't drink the human to death after three days the human is then a vampire." I explained.
"Then how did you not turn into one?" Charlie asked.
"My family showed up. While my siblings took care of James, Carlisle and I took care of Bella. There was still time to save her but I just needed to suck the venom out of her. So I did. Then we brought her to the hospital."
"So the story of Bella tripping and falling down the stairs and then out the window?" Charlie asked.
"Cover up story just like the one we made to tell the public about Renesmee." Bella said. "It was necessary to keep them all safe."
"So James was killed that night in the ballet studio and Victoria and Laurant were left. Laurant returned though just after my family and I left Forks."
"Why did you and your family leave Forks?" Charlie asked. He wanted to know why I left and whether or not Bella's suffering would be forgiven.
"Mr. Swan I assure you that we left for a good reason."
"It was my birthday party that the Cullens threw me. When I was opening up a gift I got a papercut and Jasper-"
"-Jasper was our newest vegetarian so being around human blood is hard for him." I added in his defense.
"-Jasper went into a bit of a frenzy and lunged at me. Edward reacted and pushed me behind him to protect me but he was a little bit rough. I ended up falling and cutting myself." Bella explained.
"After that incident I made the decision to leave. I didn't want Bella in my life that added so many dangers into hers. I wanted to protect her. I knew she wouldn't let go so easily so I had to make a clean cut. I needed her to believe I didn't love her, though I did. It was extremely hard to leave but even harder to stay away."
"While he was away I went in search of something to remind me of 'us' and decided on our meadow. That's when Laurant showed up and tried to kill me. Only the wolves showed up and chased him away and killed him."
"That was the day you told me about the animal we thought was a bear was really a giant wolf." Charlie added.
I nodded my head. "It was Jacob and the wolf pack. They kept her safe and have been helping to keep her safe since then."
"And me too!" Renesmee added.
"Jake..." Charlie mumbled as a shiver ran through him. "And about the wolf pack. There are others?"
Sue nodded her head. "Leah, Seth, Embry, Paul, Sam, Jake. Just to name a few."
"Wow, I didn't see that coming." Charlie smirked. "Do you think Seth will get mad if I ask him to be my hunting dog?" he joked.
Sue laughed. "I think he would be amused. Just don't ask Leah unless you want to get the horns."
It was a relief to see Charlie accepting the details of our supernatural world so easily. The way he processed everything was beyong amazing. He wasn't even freaking out.
"Okay enough laughter I want to know more." Charlie said eagerly.
Then the phone rang. Charlie rose up from the couch and walked to the kitchen to answer it. After a few minutes he returned."Well it looks like you will have to save the rest of the story for later I need to go into work. Apparently some kids from Seattle decided they wanted to come and vandalise the town." He said as he put his belt on.
"Yeah its about that time anyways we need to make sure Renesmee gets something to eat. But feel free to stop by anytime. You are always welcome." I said before raising to my feet.
As I headed outside to start the car Charlie stopped me. From the look on his face I could tell he was slightly off.
"I just want to say thank you for all the times you protected my daughter even though it wasn't your job to. And I want you to know I couldn't er imagine a better man for my daughter." Then out of now where he pulled me into a hug and patted me twice on the back. "Okay-" He said as he stepped back a second later. "Don't be speeding and take care of my daughter and granddaughter." He said just as Bella and Renesmee came into the entry way.
"Dad who are you trying to fool I heard everything you said." Bella laughed.
"How, you were in the other room." He asked.
"Vampires have enhanced hearing. I can hear up to a mile away perfectly." Bella replied with a smug expression.
"Well that's my cue to head to work." Sue joined us at the door and her and Charlie exchanged a kiss.
"Dinner is at 7:30." She said.
"Fish fry?" Charlie asked.
"Only the best." Sue added.
After Charlie left the three of us headed to the car. Once the doors were shut and we were on our way back to the house did it all sink in.
"Life just keeps getting better and better." Bella said as she took my hand.
"Better and better." I repeated.
