Chapter 17

2144 Words
"Where's my grand baby?" Charlie asked. I looked over at the car and gave Renesmee a slight nod. Then she got out and took a few steps towards Charlie. "Charlie, its me, Renesmee." She said. Then I heard Charlie's heart beat speed up as he began thinking about Renesmee, trying to make sense of things. He knew he had seen her just weeks ago looking like a young child and now she was looking to be Bella's age. Then his mind went blank and I knew what was happening. Stooping down I caught him just before he made contact with the concrete. "Grandpa!" Renesmee called out as she came over to his side. "Edward?" Bella said worriedly. I lifted Charlie into my arms and headed to the front door. As I entered the house I got a worried look from Sue but ignored it briefly until I had gotten him laid down on the couch. "He's only fainted." I told Bella and Sue. Letting out a breath of relief Sue then placed her hand on her large stomach and then took a seat in the recliner. Then just like Charlie, her eyes settled on Renesmee. But because of her knowledge of the vampire and werewolf world she took the suprise a whole lot better. "You look grown up, what happened kiddo?" Sue asked as she began rubbing circles on her stomach. Renesmee's attention seemed to be focused on Sue and her stomach. Her mind though, was stuck on the dream she had. "Renesmee." I called to her. She jumped slightly and then turned to look at me. "Yes father?" She said innocently before she blushed. I then nodded to Sue who repeated her question. "I sort of had a growth spurt." She said avoiding the darkside of the truth. "She had a swimming incident and drown. Luckily she is half vampire because she can't truly die unless she is beheaded and burned. But-" I said as I turned to look at my daughter. "She needs to be careful because she can still get hurt and still feel pain." Renesmee blushed and turned her gaze to Charlie. "I didn't mean to scare him." she whispered. "He'll be fine kiddo." Sue said as she adjusted her sitting position to get comfortable. "He's strong." Then Bella rose to her feet and headed into the kitchen. In less then twenty seconds she was back and kneeling before Charlie. She had something in her hands, a small round container. "Smelling salts." She explained as she noticed the curious looks she was getting from everyone in the room. "I had alot of fainting spells in my human life and this was the easiest way to bring me back to consciousness." I watched her removed the lid and wave it a few times under Charlie's nose before he began to stir. Once his eyes flickered open she replaced the cap and set the container on the table. Charlie looked around the room before he pushed himself into a sitting position. "Dad are you okay?" Bella asked. Charlie cleared his throat as he looked over at Renesmee who was sitting on the mantle of the fireplace. After a few seconds he narrow his eyes and looked to me. "You know ever since you've come into the picture there have been nothing but weird happenings and tons of secrets. I want to know what is going on and I want to know right now!" He said. He didn't raise his voice but from the severity of his tone I knew he wasn't giving us a choice. "Charlie." Sue said as she moved from the chair to the couch beside him. "You may not want to know." "We can't let him know. If he knows then he will be in danger the Voltu-" Bella began. I held up my hand. "Bella, your father is safe. His connection with Sue gives him protection from their rules." I watched my wife let the information I had just explained to her sink in before she seemed to relax a great deal. "I'm still waiting." Charlie said impatiently. "Bella you should be the one to do it." I said. Nodding her head Bella moved to her dads side and sat on the arm of the couch beside him "Dad you need to understand that what we are going to tell you needs to be kept in the circle. No one is allowed to know." I watched Charlie nod his head. "Remember when Jacob said I needed to go through some changes to get better?" She asked him. Charlie nodded his head. "Well I am a-" She paused and looked up at me. "Bella, go on." I said to her. "-I'm a vampire." Charlie's face went blank and soon after his face turned pink. "What are you trying to make me out to be? A fool? Bella cut the crap what is going on?" Bella looked at me and I nodded my head. "If you don't believe me then I will have to proove it to you." She rose to her feet and gestured for Charlie to get to his too. "Just don't be afraid of me okay." She added. Then in the next half seconds she pulled him onto her back -piggy back style- and ran, at vampire speed, from the house. I looked up at Sue. "Do you think he will be able to handle the new information?" I asked her. Sue smiled sweetly. "He may percieve you all as monsters for turning his daughter into a, forgive my words, blood sucking demon." She chuckled a bit. "But you need to get him to understand that you were all once humans like him. Let him understand that you love Bella and that you only turned her at her choice." As Sue finished her sentence Bella was back in the house. She set Charlie back on his feet and he quickly sank to the sofa, looking slightly taken back. "I wasn't lying to you dad." Bella repeated. For the next five seconds there was no words coming from Charlie's mouth. Several times Bella looked at me. Renesmee even moved over to sit on my lap. "Charlie." Bella called out again. This time he seemed to snap out of his stupor. "Why did you do this to yourself Bells?" He asked. I could see from his thoughts that he wasn't mad. Charlie just wanted deeper understanding to why his daughter chose this life. "Dad, this wasn´t a choice between being human and being vampire. It was between who I should be and who I am. I´ve always felt outta step. Like literally stumbling through my life. I have never felt normal. Because I´m not normal. And I don´t wanna be. I´ve had to face death, and loss, and pain in this world, but I´ve also never felt stronger, and more real. More myself. Because it´s my world too. It´s where I belong. I was born to be a vampire." She finished. I smiled as I recognized the bits and pieces from what she had told me was her reason behind wanting to go forth with the wedding. It was still true and would always be true, even for this situation we faced now. "So, you don't kill people and drink blood do you?" Charlie asked her. Bella smiled. "We don't kill people we like to live in peace." "But you drink... blood?" He pressed. Bella nodded his head. "Animal blood. We are stritctly animal blood drinkers dad so you don't have to worry about us." She smiled at Charlie. "Is there anything you'd like to know?" "Well Bells, to be honest I'd like to know everything. From the moment you became aware of the vampire world." He said. This was shocking to hear from Charlie even though I had knew he was going to say this because of his thoughts. "Grandpa." Renesmee said. Charlie looked over towards Renesmee who was sitting on my lap. "I'm an adult now." She confessed. Charlie nodded his head. "Why, erm, why are you an adult." He looked at Bella. "Why is she an adult she hasn't been alive no more then a year if I'm correct." Bella looked at me and then back to her father. "There is this vampire coven called the Volturi who are basically like the law enforcers in the vampire world. They have been trying to take Renesmee from us and even threatened to kill us if we didn't hand her over." Charlie's mind went into overdrive as he began thinking what his granddaughter could have possibly done to deserve to be taken by the Volturi under such force. "So we had to send Renesmee away for a little while to protect her and while she was away she was swimming and drown." Charlie gasped. "But because she is half vampire she didn't really die she was just born again except instead of looking like a child she now looks like an adult." "So the Volturi?" Charlie asked. "And Renesmee." "The Volturi came to realize that they couldn't take Renesmee without killing us but if they kill us they die too. So they won't be bothering us anymore. We are safe." Bella reassured him. "That's good. Can't have my favorite granddaughter in harms way from dirty law enforcers now can I." He said as he held out his arms for Renesmee. Smiling she got to her feet, giggling happily as she made her way to Charlie's side. "I love you grandpa." Renesmee said before wrapping her arms around him gently. "She really does love you Charlie." I smirked. "When she heard we were coming back to Forks the first thing she asked was when she could see you." Charlie blushed. "Aww Nessers." He cooed. "So kids, what brought you back to this old town?" Bella laughed. "It's so nice to not have to keep any secrets from you anymore dad. Now instead of saying we missed being here I can tell you the house was demolished in the battle." Charlie's eyes went from their normal size to the size of saucers in less then half a second. "Wait, what?" "Dad. Remember. Volturi coming for Renesmee, fighting them to protect her. The house got destroyed in the process so we are back in Forks for a year or so." Bella explained. Charlie began laughing. He knew Bella was serious but at the same time he was processing the event she had explained as if she was telling a joke. "So about that beginning of the story thing." Charlie said as he ran his fingers through his facial hair. "It's a really long story dad are you sure you have the time?" Bella asked. Charlie nodded his head. "Of course Bells.-" "So it first began-" Bella started. Charlie cleared his throat. "I think I am going to need a beer, or two, or three." He said. I rose to my feet. "I'll grab a couple for you Mr. Swan." "You can grab one for yourself too while you are in there." Charlie said. "Dad he's only 17." Bella said shocked at her fathers offer. "No thank you Sir." I replied. "I don't drink and beside the point vampires don't consume human food." "Oh yeah. Sorry its hard to see you as a teen. You are so mature for your age." He replied. "Thank you sir." I said as I headed into the kitchen. Opening the fridge I grabbed a couple beers and then headed back into the living room. I sat one beer on the table infront of Charlie and then handed him the other. "Thank you." Charlie said to me as he cracked the tab and took a large gulp. "No problem at all sir." "Edward if you call me sir one more time I'm going to get out my shotgun and shoot you. I work for a living." Charlie replied to me. "Dad you can't shoot him." Bella said quickly. "Of course I can." Charlie replied. "No, I mean you literally can't shoot him. We are indestructable." Bella laughed. "So that's why you were laughing at the reception?" Charlie asked as his memory of him trying to scare me with his knowledge about handling guns and hunting flashed through his mind. Bella gave a silent grin. "Well thats embarrassing." He took another sip from his beer and all was silent. "So are you going to begin the story Bells. I want to know everything. Every detail." Bella looked at Charlie in disbelief. "Every detail?" she repeated. Charlie nodded his head. "Every detail. And don't try and shimmy away from telling me things because you think I can't handle it. I'm your father Bells I need to know and since I am allowed to know I want to know." Bella took a deep breath. "It all began at Forks High-"
