Carina POV
“Oh, I’ve missed you,” I laugh as Eli and I walk onto the balcony. We have been reminiscing over countless glasses of wine and beer. I started feeling lightheaded and suggested that we come outside for fresh air. “I haven’t laughed so much since … I can’t remember.”
“Since your wedding,” Eli states softly.
“Yeah,” I sigh sadly, leaning my arms on the railing and looking at the lavish garden which is majestically lit. “Things changed unexpectedly.”
“I always wondered why you married him,” Eli rests his butt on the railing and crosses his arms. “He had a mate.”
“Have,” I confess.
“Wait,” Eli stands up straight. “You don’t mean …”
“Yup,” I laugh sourly. “Erica and Mason are still mates. I’m just the contract wife.”
“Carina, I know you always had a crush on him, but why are
