Niky
I blink as bright sunlight filters through the leaves of the tree. As my vision focuses, they connect with the bluest pair of eyes I have ever seen. They are filled with concern. A million thoughts run through my head, but the sparks burning across my skin confirms that I am alive, and I want to cry, but instead I swing my arm up, and slam my fist into his shoulder. Justin jolts to the side looking at me in shock, then he just starts laughing. It’s deep and rumbling, and I can feel the joy in my soul. Silver yowls in excitement at the thought of her mate being alive.
The urge to kiss him is strong, but again, I choose violence. I slam the palm of my hand into his chest and throw him backwards. Justin stops himself from flying into the tree and stands there dazed. I take a moment to look at him in admiration before I launch another attack. With a screech I rush him, and body slam him to the ground. I have so much pent-up rage towards him that I was unaware of until this moment. Justin stands up and just barely blocks my fist. Every punch or kick I aim his way he blocks, and I start to feel tired. Finally, I stop to catch my breath, my hands on my knees and my chest heaving.
“Are you finished.” Justin gasps out.
“I’m not.” A voice says behind me, and I turn to see Dylan and company. Everyone looks shocked to see Justin. “Who are you and why are you wearing my brothers face?”
This time Justin’s laugh is booming, and I shiver. “I thought Jaden informed you that today is the day?”
Dylan froze. “So soon.” He gulped.
“Yes.” Justin held his brother’s stare. “It’s time, though I believe we need to get Skye to her surgery.”
“Dad?” I hear Hannah ask as she stepped forward. “Daddy?”
Justin froze as our two children stepped closer. I saw his throat bob as he swallowed. “Hannah, Ben?”
“Dad!” Ben yelled and then both were in Justin’s arms. All three crying. A tear fell from my face as I watched, and suddenly, I was in Justin’s arms. The sparks were overwhelming, but I had missed them. I tilted my face up to look at him, and when we locked eyes, I remembered that day at the hospital over ten years ago. I slammed my lips to his. He kissed me back with equal fervor.
We pulled back and turned to our friends and family, who had come to support us during Skye’s surgery. “How?” Anna rushed at him. “How are you here?”
“It’s a long story.” Justin kissed the top of his Mom’s head. “I will tell you all later, but we need to go.” As we walked he looked at me. “If the donor died days ago, how are we doing the surgery today?”
“It was magically preserved.” Macy cut in. “There were complications with Skye, and it wasn’t until this morning that she was healthy enough for the surgery. She’s being prepped as we speak.”
“We won’t make it on time.” My Mother sighed.
“Yes we will.” Justin said. Then he snapped his fingers, and we were in the surgical wing of Nahonia General Hospital. One of the nurses yelped, when we appeared.
“How?” Macy yelled.
“I have basically been granted the powers of a God for the moment, but they will be gone in two days.” Justin shrugged.
“What?” Meg gasped.
“I’ll explain soon, but for now Niky and I need to go see our daughter.” Justin says. He takes my hand and leads me to Skye’s room. Briefly I wondered how he knew where it was but shrugged it off.
Skye clapped when she saw me. “Momma!”
“Hi Babygirl.” I grinned. I felt guilty when I realized how big she’s gotten. I should have spent more time with my children. Justin touched my back gently as if to comfort me, Skye caught the movement and tilted her head as she looked at him. “Daddy?”
Justin choked back a sob. “Hi little one. Mommy and I came to wish you luck.”
“Tank you.” Skye grinned.
“She recognized me?” Justin looked at me questioningly.
“There are pictures of you everywhere.” I laughed.
We spent some time with Skye, and she told Justin everything. I think it was mostly nonsense, but he grinned like he understood every word. The nurses came to get Skye, and we kissed her goodbye. “Bye baby.” I whispered.
“Bye Momma, bye Daddy.” She waved as they took her down the hall. We went back to the waiting room and found everyone still there.
“I think it’s time you explain to us what is going on.” My Mom pinned Justin with a glare.
“You need to explain everything.” Anna added. “Including how Dylan and Jaden are involved.”
“It’s a long story and it started a few weeks ago.” Justin leaned against the wall. “It involves the Fates, the Gods, and the fourth Trybrid.”
Everyone including me sat down to listen. Justin started. “First, I need to apologize to you Niky. When I saw you in the afterlife, I was shocked. I reacted badly, but that was because I had Just had a meeting with Clotho, one of the Fates. She had informed me that I would be coming back, but there would be some rules. It might be easier to show you.” Justin snapped his fingers and suddenly we were standing in a big room. Torches lit the chamber, and a man and a woman sat in a throne looking down at a woman that was talking to them.
“The boy must go back.” The woman told them. “The fourth Trybrid is ready to be turned, I have seen her fate.”
“Death is final Clotho, you of all people know that.” The woman on the throne responded.
“Not for these four.” Clotho insisted. “We have seen it.”
“Seen what?” Selene asked as she entered the throne room with Ambrielle in tow.
“The girl must be turned soon, if she is not we will all perish to Bastion.” Clotho insisted. “The boy must go back, together we can make it happen, and we can extend his life.”
“It’s not possible.” The man seethed,
“We need the Trybrids.” Ambrielle interjected, and without him, the others would perish. They need his gift.”
They bickered a bit more before the man snapped at the others to bring the boy to him. I assumed he meant Justin, and I was right. The man seethed. What game is this Selene? Jaden you should not be here.”
“I am not Jaden.” Justin laughed.
The man stood. “I am not in the mood for games bring me the young man I asked for.”
The door slammed open once more and Jaden entered . “Thank the Gods.” Jaden snapped. “You can’t just kidnap him Selene.”
The man jumped back in shock. “Wait if you are Jaden, then who are you?”
Justin gave a flourishing bow, and I wanted to laugh at how he was being an ass. “My name is Justin Ohmsford,”
“My twin.” Jaden rolled his eyes.
“Twins?” The man looked at the women in front of him incredulously.
Clotho interrupted. “Yes twins. Now can we discuss the matter at hand.”
“Tell me about yourself Justin.” The man dismissed her, and her jaw clenched in fury.
“Well, I am technically twenty-five. I’m married, I have three children and I am one of the four Trybrids.” Justin shrugged.
The woman on the throne looked amused. “Tithan dear, I think we should here Clotho out.”
“Well Justin Ohmsford, what if I told you that you could go home to your wife and children?” Clotho asked.
“I’d say sign me up.” Justin grinned.
I looked at my husband in shock, and he shrugged. “A lot has happened my love. I wish I could have told you sooner.”
I nodded and turned back to the scene that was playing out all around us.
