Chapter 11: My Husband

1256 Words
Meghan The ER was packed today, something about a ten car pileup on the freeway. Today I was working at the Blue Moon Hospital. It’s typically reserved for the pack, but that was the top floors. The bottom floors are used for humans in the area. Some days I worked at the Blue Moon Hospital, but mostly I worked at Nahonia General Hospital. I can’t wait until my residency is over and I am a full surgeon. I looked up as the elevator doors opened. My mate walked towards me with his lopsided grin in place. “Hey babe.” I smiled. “Hey gorgeous.” Dylan kissed my cheek. “Are you free for lunch?” “I am.” I giggled. “Give me like five minutes.” Dylan nodded and moved to stand next to the wall. “Oh my god.” I looked up to see one of the human residents, Olivia Jensen, next to me. “Who is that?” “That would be Meg’s husband.” Melissa snorted. “That’s your husband?” Olivia gasped. “Damn he’s hot.” Michelle Garner grunted. I saw Dylan smirk and I bit my lip to stop myself from smiling. “Yup that’s my husband.” “I heard the Ohmsford brothers were built like gods.” Anthony Gillan laughed. “I just never thought I would see one in person.” “He’s here to join me for lunch.” I told them. I checked the chart I was working on once more. “Speaking of which, I will see you guys in a bit.” Dylan and I went to a restraint right done the road, it was just a little diner, but close enough to the hospital that I could get back quickly if needed. “So, how’s work?” I asked after we sat down. “It’s good.” Dylan nodded. “This case we are working on his huge, and I’m nervous because this is the first time I am taking lead.” “I’m sure you are doing fine.” I smile as the waitress comes over. “Hi, can I get you started with something to drink?” She smiled. “Yes, can I have a coke?” I asked and she nodded. “Make that two please.” Dylan flashed her a grin, and I swear she swooned. “And I think we are ready to order our food.” “Of course.” The waitress batted her eyes. “I would like a burger and fries.” Dylan looked at the menu for a second. “And she would like the grilled chicken burger, no lettuce.” “And fries please.” I added. “No baby, you can share mine.” Dylan laughed. I saw the waitress’s face change, almost like she was angry for me. I can understand that some women would hate that, but I loved when Dylan ordered for me. It just showed how well he knew me, and as for the fries, he always let me eat as much as I could before finishing them off. “Is that all?” The waitress seemed to growl. A quick sniff told me she was human. If she was a wolf she would have recognized the mate bond. “Yes. Thank you.” I grinned. She walked away and I turned my attention back to Dylan. “How’s work gorgeous?” Dylan asked. “It’s good.” I shrug. “We had a full ER about forty-five minutes before you came. Pile-up on the freeway.” “Damn.” Dylan frowned. “We didn’t lose anyone thank god.” I told him and he breathed out a sigh of relief. “Dylan at some point I will lose a patient. You can’t panic every time.” “I know. I’m sorry.” Dylan sighed. “It just worries me is all.” “I know.” I covered his hand with mine. “Let’s move on from this topic, don’t forget that we have parent teacher conferences coming up.” “I won’t love. I will be there.” Dylan assured me. “I’m going to run to the bathroom really quick.” I told him. He nodded and I made way back to the bathrooms. I guess the waitress saw me and she caught up to me. “I don’t mean to overstep, but are you safe?” “I’m sorry?” “I noticed he ordered for you, and he barely let you talk.” She whispered and I laughed. “I’m safe I promise.” I told her. “He’s my husband. High school sweethearts, he just knows me really well.” “What about the things with the fries.” She asked. “Did you see him.” I laughed. “He’s a bit of a health nut, he let’s me eat my fill on the fries and then finishes them off.” “Oh.” Her cheeks turned red. “I am so sorry.” “Don’t be.” I laughed. “I appreciate you having my back, but everything is fine.” She nodded and went back to the kitchen. I returned to the table a few minutes later. Our food was there, and Dylan sat there with his hands folded. His food untouched. I saw the kitchen staff watching us in interest. “You didn’t have to wait for me.” I told him. “I always wait.” He reminded me. I sighed and rolled my eyes. “Why are they staring at us?” Dylan looked towards the kitchen staff. “I don’t know.” I shrugged as I stuffed a fry in mouth. As if that was a silent signal Dylan began eating as well. When we finished we paid, and I told Dylan to tip the waitress well. He didn’t question it and left her a fifty dollar tip. He dropped me off at the front desk and with a kiss goodbye he left. “How was lunch?” Melissa asked. “It was good.” I nodded. We spent the next several hours in the ER, and finally around eight we got to clock out and head home. I said goodbye to Melissa and drove to Anna and Tanner’s house. I am still getting the hang of teleporting. Their cars were in the driveway, but a quick check confirmed that they weren’t home, so I locked the door before using the gate to enter the castle. When I walked into our room I noticed that Dylan wasn’t home. It wasn’t unusual these days, but I felt a twinge of sadness. I showered and then went to find everyone. I froze in the door way when I saw that the sitting room had multiple police officers. “Robert?” He turned to look at me. “Meghan.” His voice and eyes held a sadness that resonated in my soul. “I’m so sorry.” “What’s happened?” I gasped urging my feet to move forward. “Niky, Justin, and Dylan are missing.” Alex hung his head. “They were taken by Bastian.” Hannah snarled. “What?” My knees felt weak. “We’ll find them.” Robert promised. Everything was fuzzy and out of focus. The room started to spin, and pain lanced through my stomach. A scream tore from lips, and the last thing I heard was someone calling my name. “Meghan!”
