I stood in a sanctuary like room dressed in a long black dress that flowed gracefully at my waist. There were red gems woven in at the chest to make a 'V'. I was barefoot but my nails were painted crimson red and around my neck was the same 'V' necklace that was placed around my neck by one of the leaders of the clan.
I stared blankly at Rome who stood beside me. The elder man named Marcus was reading the words they have created in exchange for the wedding. He went over what was expected of me as a wife and the role I would play, then he told me the words I must say. I took a deep breath before I spoke.
"I, Juliet Clairvaux Hale take you Romeo Shakespeare Volturi to be my eternal partner in life. I swear on my ashes to please you from this day forward, for better or for worse I will stand by your side. To love and to cherish; from this day forward until death becomes of me."
Rome said his words and then we were eternally bound. For the Volturi's kissing wasn't custom. That was part of the 'honeymoon' act. Instead we were supposed to share the blood of a human. Since we were both blood virgins the person was supposed to be a child of innocence. We had to drink the blood of a young girl.
Before I could count to ten the doors opened and in came Felix carrying a screaming girl who looked to be around the age of five. She had long red hair, green eyes and freckles. She was dressed in a white frilly dress with a red bow at the waist. Felix dragged her forward and dropped her on the ground before us and took a step back.
The little girl cowered on her hands and knees before us. Her lip quivered and her big doey green eyes teared.
"Voglio La mia mamma" The little girl spoke.
I knew a little bit of the Italian language and understood enough of her words to get the jist of what she was saying. She wanted her mother. I felt trapped. I wasn't a blood drinker like they were and I especially didn't kill humans. If I wanted to live I had to honor my...marraige and do as they said.
"Let the ceremony end as the newlywed share their first pure human." Casius spoke.
Everyone was watching me and waiting, waiting for us to complete the ceremony. At this point I was considered married. In the Volturi the only way to leave your partner was in death. If I wanted a divorce I was asking to have my life end.
I held out my arms towards the girl and waited a few seconds. She willingly came forward and nuzzled against me and began crying. Then both Rome and I leaned towards her and sank our teeth into her neck. She let our a high pitched scream and tried to run away but with fail. She couldn't move because our strength was too great.
After a few seconds she went limp in my arms and I released her. The girl was dead, I killed her. For a mere second the thought of a mother unable to find her daughter filled my mind and then quickly disappeared as the taste of the blood overwhelmed me. I wanted more.
I dove at the body and began sucking the nothingness. No blood was left but I was crazed I needed it. Felix laughed as he came forward and pulled me into his arms in a fatherly embrace.
"I know the feeling of thirst, don't worry dinner will come soon enough and since you are newlyweds you will get to drink from a buffet of humans." Felix said.
He released me into the arms of my 'husband' and we walked away. Before we left the room I heard someone mention something about the honeymoon phase. What happened during a honeymoon?
