Morris POV
It's been two days since the attack in the garage. Reviewing the camera was no help. The person made sure their face was never visible to the camera, which just further makes me believe that Loreli was involved. How the hell did the pr*ck know which way to turn to avoid the camera? In the video, as soon as the a**hole that hit me from behind rushes from the parking garage she walks out to find me.
My skin crawls watching her touch me. Elise never asked to see the video, which I'm glad for. Watching Loreli cup my cheeks and run her fingers through my hair while she was on the phone with who I assume is 911 made me want to puke. I wish there was audio on the feed so I could hear what she was saying. Despite the fact I know I was the target, I've increased the security in the garage.
I was released late yesterday from the hospital because I complained of a damn headache to my wife. I was hoping that Elise and I could spend the day together but my sister and brothers insist on coming over to check on me. Besides the fact that Elise has a showing tonight at the gallery that she was going to cancel because of what happened to me. I refused to let her cancel it.
I plan to be by my wife's side while she shows the world her amazing talent. When we first got married, a lot of the society b**ches that I grew up around insisted that Elise only married me for the money. The funny part is that is why most of them married their husbands. They took every chance they could to call her a gold digger.
My amazing wife even insisted on a prenup that doesn't even exist. Well, she thinks it exists, but I refused to allow my lawyer to file it. Believe me he wasn't happy and told me I would live to regret it. If anything happens between us, she is entitled to half of everything I own. Not that I will ever let her leave me. I know I've made mistakes, but I plan on making them right. Starting with supporting my wife's career tonight.
I slide out of bed, hating to find her side of the bed empty. The minute we got back from the hospital yesterday, I took a scolding hot shower. It felt good to wash away the attack and the smell of the hospital. By the time Elise made dinner and picked Emmy up from her parents, we were both too exhausted to talk. I had hoped she would still be in bed this morning, so I could hold her without the nurses interrupting.
Once I finish in the bathroom, I head down the hallway where I can hear giggles coming from the kitchen. It's the best sound in the world. A sound I could have lost had I not listened to my wife. I step into the kitchen and Emmy is helping Elise make breakfast. "How are my girls this morning," I ask, and Emmy jumps down to rush over to me. I scoop her up and pepper kisses all over her little face.
"Daddy, we are making you chocolate chip pancakes" she says. "Those are my favorite. Thank you sweet girl." I look up to see my wife smiling warmly at the two of us. "You were supposed to be resting in bed. You just got out of the hospital. I hope you don't think your going to work today," she says with her hand on her hip.
I walk around the counter and press a quick kiss on her lips. Emmy giggles again, and I set her on her feet. "I won't be going back to work until Monday, Elise. I plan on spending the weekend with my girls. Tonight, though, we will be attending your show while Emmy hangs out with her uncles. Nathan will pick her up around four."
"Morris, you had a concussion. I don't expect you to go tonight." I give her a stern look and she smirks. "Too bad. I'm going, and after we are coming home and spending some quality time together. Nathan will drop Emmy off tomorrow morning." "Sounds like you have everything planned Mr. McNair. When did you make all these arrangements?" "While you were showering last night" I say and pull her into my arms. When she rests her head against my chest I could cry. I was so worried we would never get back to these little moments again.
After a few minutes, she pulls back and offers me one of her smiles that makes me feel warm all over. "Go sit, I'll get your coffee and pancakes. We eat together and everything in my world feels right for the first time in a while. After breakfast, I throw on jeans and t-shirt just in time to hear the doorbell ring. When I open it I'm damn near knocked over by my sister. "Briar, are you trying to finish the job?"
She pulls back, looking irritated. "Not funny, Morris. I'm still pissed that I didn't get a phone call until you got home. Wait till mom finds out you didn't call her," she says. "She is in Hawaii with Carl for their anniversary, which is the same reason I didn't call you. I wasn't going to call and bother you or mom." She slaps my arm. "You were hurt. What if something happened," she says.
I can see tears are forming in her eyes. I pull her close again. "Briar, I'm fine. I promise next time I'll call no matter what day it is." "There better not be a next time," Elise says from behind me. Briar releases me and goes to hug my wife. Dante and Dennis both bro hug me before we all take a seat in the living room. "So do you want to tell us exactly what the hell happened," Dante says.
I tell them everything I know and about the surveillance video. "So they have no idea who the hell did this" Dennis says. "No, I have a feeling my old assistant is involved, but I can't prove anything. She has been a problem even though I moved her to another executive."
"She has been sending messages to Elise insinuating that we are in a relationship, but we have no way to prove it isn't her." "Why don't you give the phone to Derek's IT guy. He might be able to help" Briar says. "Amber has the phone right now. I'll get it from her and give it to Derek. Enough about me, what's going on with you and Nicole, Dante." My brother's face says it all before he even speaks.
"Nicole and I are done. She tried to get Dennis to f**k her and then when he refused she tried to pretend she thought he was me. Besides, I think she has been screwing her boss. All I can say is I'm glad I always wrapped it up. Honestly, I'm just going to stay single. Every girl I've dated either cheats or turns into a clinger," Dante says.
"Don't give up Dante. The right girl comes into your life when you least expect it" I say smiling at my wife. "Not all of us are lucky enough to meet the right girl on a plane ride, bro," Dennis says. "You'll never meet the right girl Dennis if you keep shooting them all down." "I've been with girls I'm just a little bit pickier than my twin," he says and Dante punches him in the arm.
Finding out Briar and I had three brothers was definitely a shock, but I can't imagine my life without them now. "What time do we need to be at the show tonight" Briar asks. "The show starts at six, but it's alright if you're busy," Elise says. Briar glares at her and I laugh. "We are never too busy to support you Elise. Derek, Dante, Dennis, and I will be there. Besides, it will give me a night out with my husband since Lola and Bruce are keeping the kids," she says, moving her eyebrows suggestively.
"Gross, I do not want to hear about you with Derek." Dante and Dennis nod their agreement. Elise and Briar both burst out laughing. Seeing my wife smiling and happy is something I want to see every day for the rest of our lives. Now I just need to deal with the b**ch because I won't let her interfere in my marriage.
