Ward is pacing again like a caged animal. I want to reach for him, but I’m afraid it will only make it worse. “I have never smelled him. How did I not know? I thought he was human!” Ward snarls. I offer him my hands, palms up in a placating gesture. I’ve moved to the center of the bed, my legs crossed, skirts hiked up about my hips so I can watch him pace more easily. “Ward, he’s Fae. If he didn’t want you to know, I presume that’s why you didn’t.” I murmur soothingly. He shows me his teeth, sharp canines flashing. It’s not a threatening gesture towards me, he’s just showing his frustration and helplessness. “That is not comforting, Kennice.
