I slit the shorter soldier's throat. The other tries to run. I hear crashing in the underbrush, and the man turns, giving me the extra seconds I need to catch him. I tackle him to the ground and press my blade to the back of his neck, letting the blade bite into him to make a point. He struggles to buck me off until I lean more weight on the knife and it slides into his flesh. Blood wells up from the wound and drips to the forest floor. He stills. “Are there any more of you?” I hiss. “Uh-uh. No. No more. Just us two.” He babbles.
