Malorie didn’t give him a chance to ask. She dove in immediately, as if she was being pulled by a string, blindly being taken back into a world she would have rather forgotten.
“Like I said. I’m not a person to them,” she swallowed harshly, then shook her head quickly as if she was a child trying to ward off a nightmare, “What I’ve been through…”
Another pause in her story had him wanting to tell her that she could continue, that she was safe with him.
“I can’t even… I don’t want to go back into it,” she nearly growled, speaking about it making him wonder exactly what she was hiding down in the depths of her guarded heart.
“But you can,” he said, pushing her gently onward. “I’m here. I’ll always be,” he promised, unsure if it would make a difference.
